The Port Perry team travelled to Thornhill on Wednesday night for the opening game of the series, and won by a 14-3 score with Jeff Card picking up the win and allowing on- ly two hits and struck out 11 Thor- nhill batters. Brad Plain made a leaping catch while playing short-stop in the fourth inning along with John Carvelle making a winning back hand catch in centre field. Ken Barber went 4 for 4 at the plate including a towering homerun to the fence for the Gators. Andrew Barron hit well and made some good catches at second base. Andre Gotthelf hit a homerun and was solid behind the plate for 'Taylor's team. Brandon Guide also had a homerun and made some good cat- ches in field but the Taylor team wasn't able to catch up on their loss of 24-15 with the Lil Gators. The rained out game between Causeway Esso & Davidson Fuels will be played Aug. 19. SQUIRT GIRLS August 11, 1987 Cummings Backhoe with yet another win defeated Gord Lewis 26-7. Erin Hassell hit a homerun for her team and Stacey Swain caught a pop fly and threw the ball to first base for a double play. The stars for Gord Lewis were Alana Tophan made some good cat- ches infield. Tanya Towns pitched three good innings and had some key hits when they were needed for her team. ~ For the third time in the season Eames Pastries had another close ame with the Marsh Hill Jerseys. Kim Ray went 4 for 4 at the plate with 2 doubles. Kim Poppleton hit a olid triple and caught a line drive at the mound to start a double play. She also made a winning catch to give the Jerseys their 23-16 win. Sara Hawker made a double play on third and hit a grand slam homerun. Denna Lovering made a nice catch infield and hit a homerun. Misty Garvock pitched well for the Pastries and caught a line drive back to the mound. MINOR SOFTBALL MITES Rent and Save came through with a thrilling game, coming from behind victory scoring 6 runs in the last inning to defeat Seagrave 16-14. The star of the game was Aman- da Redmond, who had two hits in the last inning and drove in the win- ning run with two out. Chrjsty Ann Aldridge was four for four at the plate and scored each time. HOUSELEAGUE YEARS OLD Ray Rankin Carpentry vs. Lucyk-McPhee Construction Lucyk-McPhee Construction had only 6 players and had to forfeit the game. After obtaining two players from the Carpentry team, Lucyk- McPhee won the exhibition game 26-5. Getting hits for Lucyk-McPhee were Adam Hobbs, Tamara Empr- ingham, Laura Hooker and Owen St. John with 4 hits each while Mike Heasman had 3 and Sean Roncetti MITES 17-8 had 5 hits. Playing a super game for Green- bank was Travis MacSween who tagged a player out on 3rd base and went 3 for 3 at bat. Also getting three hits each and showing great im- provement in baseball since May 18th are Melinda Saunders, Jay Fletcher, Mathew Blowe and Dana Hooker.
