| | 22 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, August 25, 1987 In a tight race to the end of the season, Lil Gators held out to win first place over the Causeway Esso team. The Gators won the No. 1 pins and got a bye for the first game in the tournament for August 22. In game one between Davidson Fuels & Causeway Esso, Davidson's team pulled together to come up with a 12-11 win, Game 2 between Blackstock Lions & D.J. Taylor - good hitting was prevelant throughout the game but Taylor's pitching gave them a 16-8 win. Game 3 had Davidson Fuels 'squaring off with Lil Gators. Both teams showed excellent ball playing techniques with the Gators coming ahead with an 18-6 win. . The two out of town teams faced each other in game 4's must win situation. Causeway Esso put out the rival team of Blackstock Lions with a 19-9 win. The quarter final games were bet- ween D.J. Taylor and the Lil Gators and Davidson Fuels and Causeway Esso. Fine pitching and hitting in the Taylor - Gator game made a tight race with the Lil Gators pull- ing an 18-11 finish putting them in the final game. In a turnaround game between Davidson & Esso, Esso's pitching proved too much to handle and the Fuels flames were put out in a 21-2 loss. The semi-final game pitted D.J. Taylor & Causeway Esso in a must win to advance to the finals against the Lil Gators. Both teams pitching, was excellent with many strikeouts. The heavy hitting, Causeway Esso team proved to be too much for Taylors fielding giving Esso the ad- vancement to the finals with a 21-8 win. Due to the length of the Pee Wee - Bantam girls final the game bet- ween the Lil Gators & Causeway Esso got a late evening start on a windy night. Despite the dust storms on the playing field the quality of hit- ting and fielding was extremely good throughout the game . The rivalry between these two teams has been high all season and both teams were pumped up for the game. The Gators came out hitting hard in the first inning and it was catch up ball for Esso for the rest of the game. The Gators with their mascot Alley Gator won the championship pennants with an 18-3 win. The consolation pins were given to Causeway Esso. Coming off a fine season last year under the guidance of head coach George Burnett, the MoJacks will hit the ice for the first time September 17 as training camp opens at the Scugog Arena. They will play their first pre- season exhibition game September 24 at the Scugog Arena with Schomberg Jr. C's here for a visit. On September 27, also at the Scugog Aréna, the Ajax Axemen will be in for an exhibition game. The first week in October, the team will hit the road for three pre- season contests against Little Bri tain and Ajax. The first scheduled regular league game for the MoJacks will be Oc- tober 8 in Port Hope. This is a tradi- tion (opening on the road in Port Hope) that goes back several years. There have been changes made in the Central Junior C league for the coming season with the formation of two divisions, north and south. The MoJacks will play in the North Division with Uxbridge, Lit- tle Britain, Lindsay, defending all- Ontario champs Lakefield and Madoc. The South Division will be made up of Ajax, Bowmanville, Port Hope, Cobourg, Wellington and Trenton (formerly Brighton), Although the team will lose several players to over-age, the Mo- Jacks will be looking to improve on last season's fine record which saw them finish first in their division, breeze past Lindsay in the quarter final and then lose an exciting series in six games to the rival Uxbridge Bruins. Along the way, they provid- ed Junior C fans in Port Perry with some superb hockey action. The Port Perry Lil Gators won the Pee Wee Boys House League championship, thanks to a late night win over Causeway Esso on Saturday. (See story for details). Ringette is a great team sport for girls of all ages to participate in. Played on ice, it is fun, super ex- ercise, and a great way to meet new people and make new friends. The girls travel weekly to various centres surrounding Port Perry to compete with teams of similar abili- ty. They also have home games and practices on a regular basis. Teams generally participate in several tournaments during the season and playoffs are scheduled at the end of the regular season.
