The U.C.W. will hold their next meeting on Tuesday, September 8 at 1 p.m. at the home of Clara Jones in Glen Major. ' Dessert & refreshments will top off the meeting. A reminder to members to bring the money from their July calendar project. The euchre will start this Friday in Utica Hall beginning at 8 p.m. The community and the Hall Board are going to miss the presence of Mildred Thompson who for the past few years has been in- strumental in the running of the euchres. Mildred along with her best friend Phyllis Clarke were killed in an automobile accident on Friday evening while on their way to a weekend at a cottage. Sympathy is extended to the families of both of these ladies in their bereavement. Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Aked and Rebecca spent the weekend in Kit- chener where Stephen took part in a lob ball tournament. Stephen's sister Heather who has recently Uxbridge plans arts celebration Mark September 18 and 19 on your calendar. You won't want to miss the second annual Uxbridge Celebration of the Arts. The opening ceremonies will take place in con- junction with the formal opening of the new library. Afterwards, a Costume Ball at the Uxbridge Music Hall will feature Herb Knox and his "Big Band Nostalgia,' a fabulous 15-piece dance band. Saturday will include a full day of activities for the whole family. An outdoor craft sale will get under way at 10 a.m. Theatre workshops for kids and adults will be running all day for those who want to try their hand at acting in an informal at- mosphere. For art enthusiasts there is a tour of artist's studios as well as the annual Visual Arts Show and Sale. The streets will come alive in the afternoon with buskers, musi- cians, mime artists, a magician, ac- tors and a treasure hunt for the kids. Films will be shown throughout the day at the new library. This 'year's programme will take a behind-the-scenes look at how films are made. The films will be in- "troduced by Gerald Pratley, Founder and Director of the Ontario Film Institute. If you are an actor, musician, singer, magician, juggler or clown you are invited to join in the festivities on Saturday, September 19. "4 returned from a couple of years working in England, has been spen- ding some time in the village with the Aked family. Mr. and Mrs. Werner Mees have returned home following a visit with her parents in Winnipeg. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Doug Holtby who celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary on Fri- day evening with friends and relatives in Utica Hall. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fielding and girls celebrated their wedding an- niversary with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Earl Fielding for Sunday supper. Wally & Jean Scott of London were Sunday visitors with Mrs. Crosier. If you haven't seen too much of the Eric Carres this summer it is because they have been back and forth to the cottage at Thornbury where they spent a good deal of the summer. Miss Laura Carre is spen- ding the weekend at her friend Miss Janine Good's home in Toronto where they are taking in various activities. This weekend is the Port Perry Fair and the following are some of the events planned: A clown contest on Saturday at 2 p.m. for children up to 12 years of age; colouring con- test for children on Saturday in the ""Home Craft' building and the Pet- ting Zoo with a variety of animals. I understand that the adults can en- joy '"'Bossy Bingo" so come and watch Bossy do her bit. There is much more on each of the 3 days. Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Slute were Sunday supper guests with son Ken and family at Greenbank. Ian Ross is spending a week with the Slutes and brother Adam is staying with the Lloyd Ross'. Congratulations to Eileen Slute & Alice Ross on their prize winning flowers at the Brooklin Hor- ticultural Soc. meeting. The 1st meeting of the 4-H Club will be held on Thursday, September 10th at the home of Cathy Accera. Call Gail Kerry or Cathy if more information is needed. The Arnold Kerry's held a corn roast on Saturday evening for some of their flying friends and on Sunday they flew out to Rice Lake for lunch. For those neighbours wondering (as I was) about all the small aircraft flying over the airfield on Sunday, apparently they were having a lit- tle bit of fun by sand bombing the Kerrys. ssi ?
