Ministre The Greenbank All Stars have had some most competitive games throughout the season but nothing will ever match the softball com- petition this past weekend at the OASA playdowns in Springbrook. The teams were tough and played great ball but Greenbank still managed to win 2 of 4 games throughout the weekend. In the first game Greenbank met a strategic team from Conestoga. The All Stars played a great game coming out with a 6-4 win. Brett Puckrin started things off on the mound and chalked up 7 strikeouts and pitched a superb game. John Chronis and John Ennis played great defensively, making more than 1 diving catch. Scoring for Greenbank were John Ennis, Brett Puckrin (2), Tim ~ Timms, Mark Shepherd and Ken Winslow. Greenbank hit well and played tight defence to win a very impor- tant game. The win over Conestoga put Greenbank against a team from Shallow Lake. Greenbank came up flat against this team and lost 7-1. Scoring for Greenbank was John Ennis who went 3 for 4 throughout the entire game. The loss against Shallow Lake put Greenbank up against a wall. They would have to win every game from here on to win the championship. They got off to a great start when they blanked Tamworth 3-0 in a superb game which saw great defence from Greenbank to hold Tamworth off. The games first run was not scored until the bottom of the fourth when John Chronis cracked a triple to left centre-field and was driven home by Brett Puckrin's drive to 'right- field. He sacrific- ed a single and scored Mark Shepherd. John Ennis then singled to left field and scored Barclay Phoenix to make the score 3-0 in favour of Greenbank. That was all Greenbank was to get but they played a superb game offensively and defensively. Mark Shepherd made some great catches in left-field as well as Darin Bacon and Chris Connely in their respective fields. On the mound, Brett Puckrin went 624 innings until he gave up his first hit. He went the distance for the win which resulted in 10 strike outs. The win against Tamworth put Greenbank against a strong team from Wellington which resulted in a heart-breaker for the entire team for they were eliminated from the tournament by the score of 1-0. John Ennis, Tim Timms and Mark Shepherd all had good hits but just couldn't score. Ken Winslow played extremely well on third base making no errors the entire tournament. Throughout the tournament, Greenbank played well and showed "class" to the spectators who wat- ched their games. Even though they lost, they should be congratulated on their tremendous efforts.
