The popular bandshell concerts in Palmer Park this summer were a success in more ways than one. Not only did a 'ot of people attend the open air concerts, a start-up grant from Scugog Township was returned to the municipality Mon- day afternoon. Concert chairman Bill Barr was able to return the $3200 grant money which the municipality provided for the concerts. He also turned a cash surplus from the concerts of nearly $240. Members of council were pleased that the grant money was returned to the municipal coffers, but Mr. Barr warned that the money and more would be needed for the con- cert series next summer. He noted that the reason the Tewiiship grant was not needed was due to the "extreme generosity' of the local business community which sponsored the concerts to the tune of $8800 this summer. "Although they (the business community) were extremely Traffic signals (From page 1) cost of lights, as would the owner of the plaza. The problem with traffic at that intersection is further complicated by a proposed large commercial development on the west side of the highway, immediately across from the plaza. The MTC would likely be more in- clined to agree to traffic signals if the entrance to that new develop- ment is a public réad, rather than a driveway to private property. NOW OPEN . Some members of council want the development on the west side of the highway to include a Township- owned road that would hook up to a road allowance exiting onto Water Street. The council may have a better idea of how to pursue the installation of traffic lights at the intersection after meeting with the developer of the proposed plaza on the west side of the highway. That meeting is scheduled for ear- ly in October. PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, September 29, 1987 -- 3 Bandshell concerts popular and successful ty for financial support next year, Mr. Barr said the cost of eight con- certs will be in the $6,000 range. And a large portion of that amount will have to come in the form of a municipal grant. It cost $10,600 to stage the 13 con- cert series this past summer. One concert was rained out and had to be held in the Town Hall 1873. 4 RES PRESEN oe SE HENRY pr AROQUE hl hm ns 8 by on 1 iL, Mime tm TH fi Mery "wAHE ED . .
