The Council, formerly known as the Durham Region Council on Child Abuse and Family Violence, has spent the last year developing pro- tocols on child sexual and physical abuse and planning an educational program for next year. Later this fall, the Council will be seeking input from the community to further revise and define their documentation and attempt to gain co-operation from individuals and groups dealing with abused children. The council has requested funding from the Ministry of Community and Social Services in order to enable them to hire a training con- sultant to help with the creation and implementation of a specific train- ing program for professionals work- ing directly with victims, perpetrators and the families of each respective group. The ministry granted $55,000 to in- itiate such a program which is still in the planning stages. A training consultant will be hired shortly with the program expected to start soon after. Anyone wishing additional infor- mation should contact Nikita Crook, the council's co-ordinator at 686-1820 or 360-8960. Tourist board meeting (From page 6) town every bit as attractive," he said. He also made reference to Port Perry finding a better way to water the new hanging flower baskets, jokingly. . At the conclusion of his address, Mr. Herrema, along with chairman David Gould unveiled the new TADR logo. The logo consists of the blue styliz- ed Durham Region "D" with waves across the bottom and a yellow sun- burst in the centre. During the question period, Oshawa councillor Ed Kolodzie stood up and said that he did not like the logo and that he would be very disappointed if it were not re- designed to incorporate the words "Durham Region." In his closing remarks, David Gould suggested that the work was just beginning for the executive of TADR and it was going to take a lot of participation by a lot of people. He urged those present to join the organization and do what they could "to make sure TADR was a success. Ruth Burkholder, who is general manager of the Central Ontario Travel Association spoke briefly saying that it was important to sell what you have (attractions) and sell them well. "Get involved...you can't afford not to,"' she concluded. An election of 15 directors, which included Len Green of the Scugog Shores Museum and a represen- tative of Haugen's Barbeque will now begin the work of giving Durham Region an identity.
