Melissa Rodway, Melissa Rudy and Gret- chen Cornish all did well at the cross country meet last week. Melissa Rodway captured a se- year old race. cond, her co-hort Melissa Rudy managed a fourth, while Gretchen came fifth in the Girls 13 Atoms start with draw The Atom No. 2 team sponsored by Pineridge Sports, met the Cobourg team in their first 2 match- ups of the season. The newly. form- ed Pineridge Sports team consists of: James Paterson, Kirk Swain, Ricky Olaisen, Daryl Bourgeois, Craig Laird, Kent Taylor, Graham Holt, Ian Shrigley, Matt Morris, Ian McCready, Richard Tripp, Greg Thompson, Ryan Williams, Billy Zaparanuik, Jeffrey Vernon and Scot Prechitko. The first match ended in a 2-2 tie ith goals by Ian McCready, assisted by Richard Tripp and Bil- ly Zaparanuik, the second by Ian Shrigley assisted by Daryl Bourgeois. Matt Morris, Billy Zaparanuik, Greg Thompson and Jeffrey Vernon contributed good solid defence during the game. On Saturday, Oct. 17 the Pineridge Sports Atoms met 4 Cobourg again. The team came out a TR a Eh aA strong in the first period with a goal by Kent Taylor assisted by Craig Laird and Matt Morris. The second goal was scored by Ryan Williams assisted by Daryl Bourgeois and Ian Shrigley. This was a strong offen- sive game with the line of Craig Laird, Kirk Swain and Kent Taylor leading the way making numerous SCUGOG ARENA PUBLIC SKATING shots on net. Daryl Bourgeois, Ryan Williams and Ian Shrigley showed a great effort everytime they hit the ice. Ian McCready, Ricky Olaisen and Graham Holt completed the final line giving a solid * performance. Both goaltenders James Paterson and Scot Prechitko played an ex- cellent stand-up performance in nets for both games. The parents and the coaches, of the Pineridge Atoms, are predicting a super season for this hard working bunch of boys! - On Sunday, October 18 the Atom No. 2 travelled to Millbrook with hopes of winning their first game of the season. Millbrook scored early in the first period at the 1:36 mark. The game remained 1-0 due to the good defen- sive plays by Jeff Vernon, Greg Thompson, Richie Tripp and good goaltending by James Paterson. In the second period Millbrook scored again making it 2-0. Scot Prechitko took over the goaltending duties midway through the second period and once again the Pineridge boys were helped by good goalten- ding when a Millbrook player had a breakaway but was denied by Scot. Billy "Legs" Zaparanuik had an end 985-8698 (starts Sunday, October 18th) | SUNDAYS - 2:30 to 3:45 PM .................... .75¢ Pre-school and Adults: WEDNESDAYS - 10 to 11:30 AM ............ But Billy had his revenge soon after when he shot the puck into the team bench and knock- ed his fathers hat off (Score: Billy 1- Dad 0). In the third period Millbrook scored twice to make the final score Millbrook 4 - Port Perry 0. This score does not reflect the many excellent saves by both James Paterson and Scot Prechitko. A penalty shot was one of the highlights of the third period and Scot Prechitko was outstanding in making the save. Port Perry had ample opportuni- ty to score a power play goal with Millbrook receiving twelve minutes in penalties but they just couldn't capitalize against the good penalty killing from the Millbrook squad. A good effort was put forth by all the players on Sunday especially Kirk Swain and Daryl Bourgeois who had the opposition going in circles. Pineridge Sports next game is Saturday, October 24 when they will meet a team from Manvers.
