McClelland "The Port Perry MoJacks put a pair of wins on the board last week in Central Junior C hockey action, and they did it in very convincing fashion. On Oct. 27, the MoJacks showed little mercy on the winless Madoc Hurricanes as they rolled to a 14-1 victory in Madoc. And Sunday night against the Ajax Axemen, the Mo- Jacks broke a close game wide open in the third period en route to an 11-4 © victory. The MoJack record now stands at four wins and two defeats, good enough for second spot behind Lakefield Chiefs in the Northern Division of the Central Junior League. In Madoc, the MoJacks were com- ing off two straight losses and the players obviously were in no mood to be "nice guys." Rob Baker and Dave Burnett held hot hands in the scoring parade with Baker clicking for three goals and three assists and Burnett hitting for a hat trick. Other marksmen were John Hartford, Dean Smethurst with two, Steve Ashby with two, Darren Nesbitt and Rob Metcalfe. Nesbitt also picked up four assists from his spot on the blue line. The lone Madoc goal came mid- way through the final period off the stick of Pete Hagerman. On Sunday night at the Scugog Arena, the MoJacks scored six times in the final frame and got solid goaltending from Paul Goreski who faced 29 shots. The Axemen got on the board first at 5:20 when Ron Jackson clicked on broke a clase game wide open and breezed to an 11-4 victory, their second in as many games. (See story for details). MolJacks bounce back with two victories a rebound. But Bob St. Jules tied it _ five minutes later after the MoJacks applied a lot of pressure around the Ajax net. At 17:42, Rob Baker put his team up 2-1 with a great individual effort on a breakaway. He fought off an Ajax checker and still managed to slip a back-hand under goaltender Steve Brooks. Baker's goal came right after Paul Goreski had made a fine stop on a clear Ajax breakaway. .Early in the third, John Hartford made it 3-1 with a shot from in close after Craig Menzies worked hard behind the Ajax cage to come up with the puck for a centering pass. But the Axemen fought back to tie the score at 3-3 with two quick goals. Then with under three minutes to play in the second period, Dave Burnett and Dean Smethurst went to work with goals 15 seconds apart and the Mojacks were ahead for good 5-3. Probably the prettiest goal of the evening came at 9:24 of the third when Darren Nesbitt started a play from deep in the MoJack zone with a perfect pass on the stick of Greg Warriner on the left wing. He car- ried across the blue line and fed Kevin Long at the Ajax goal-mouth for a tip-in which gave the MoJacks a 7-4 lead. The MoJacks had the scent of blood by this time and they worked hard for four more goals by Bob St. Jules, Smethurst, Burnett and Thane Ellis who un-loaded with a hard wrist shot from 25 feet out to make the final 11-4. The MoJacks were full marks for this victory. They worked hard, Novice A post : tie, and 3-1 win The Novice Auctioneers travelled to Stouffville Friday night coming up with a tie of 4-4. They played a very strong game with great effort by Timmy Fitzpatrick giving us two goals, and another by Jason Logan, our defenseman, with a great slap- shot from the blue line. The final goal of the evening was by Tommy Chambers. Assists go to Kent Johnston, Jason Logan, Tim Fitzpatrick and Kevin Gray. Our second game of the weekend took us to Port Hope late Sunday afternoon. We came away with a victory of 3-1. Scoring for Port were Daryl McEnaney 2 goals, Tommy Chambers 1 goal, 2 assists and assists to Brad Morton, Jason Logan, and Brad Shonly. Continuing to play well on defense are Mike Heasman and Brad Mor- ton as well as Jeff Clarke and Jason Logan. Newcomers to the team Matthew McClelland and Brad Shonly are proving to be extremely helpful in their forward positions. Mike Morden, sharing goakten- checked hard and got some big saves from Goreski when the game was still close. Dave Sims returned to the Mo- Jack blue line and played his usual © hard-nosed game. He threw a | devastating shoulder into an Ajax forward midway through the third which may have been the hardest open ice hit in the game. Kevin Long and Dave Culbert both turned in fine games and along the blue line Rob Metcalfe and Chris Edmondson continue to display solid defensive work. The MoJacks have three games this week. On Monday night (Nov. 2) they travelled to Cobourg for a game with the Cougers. This com- ing Friday, they are in Lindsay for a tilt against the Muskies and on ! Sunday, they host Trenton at the Scugog Arena for a 7:30 face off. The MoJacks may have their hands full against the Muskies who lost twice over the weekend, 7-4 to + Trenton and 7-6 against Uxbridge | when the Bruins got the game win- ner with three seconds remaining. In other Junior C action, Bowmanville pounded Madoc 11-0 to remain un-defeated and Little Bri- h tain defeated Trenton. With the two wins last week, the MoJacks are four and two. Both games played on the weekend proved to be strong ones for the Auctioneers as they never let up on the opponents in either game. Playing a very strong centre for Port was Todd Parry, with his wingers Darryl Moase and Matthew McClelland keeping up with Todd's pace.
