The communi- ty was shocked to learn of the tragic death of Brian Tysick in a jeep ac- cident on Friday evening. Sympathy is extended to his parents Marie and Ross Tysick, and his sister Sherry and her fiance Leon Slute. A memorial service was held on Sun- day evening at the Scugog Memorial Chapel, Port Perry with the funeral service and interment in Perth on Tuesday. Thoughts go to the Redman fami- ly of Scugog Island on the loss of their fine dairy barn in a spec- tacular fire on Wednesday evening. Fortunately no injuries were suf- fered nor any livestock lost in the fire. Blackstock and District Lions Club members would like to thank everyone who attended the Centen- nial Barbeque supper at the Recrea- tion Centre on Friday evening. They also thanked all who donated door prizes. Nine couples along with Rev. and Mrs. D. Davis as leaders enjoyed a Marriage Enrichment Weekend at Elim Lodge over the weekend. They spent a very rewarding and thought provoking time, District Governor Lion Al Nowit- ski attended the regular Lions meeting on Wednesday evening. Miss Susan Sheen of Toronto was a guest of Elaine and Neil Bailey and Tara on the weekend. She at- tended Commencement Exercises and enjoyed meeting many Cart- wright friends. Harold and Eileen McLaughlin, Roy and Edith McLaughlin enjoyed attending a surprise housewarming dinner for Roy and Harold's sister Jean and Ross Ashton in their new home in Bowmanville on Saturday evening. They were joined by another brother Ted and Mary McLaughlin of Fenelon Falls. Roy and Shirley Turner returned home on Friday from a fantastic month-long holiday to the Orient. They enjoyed visiting Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore Bali Indonesia and Hong Kong. Won't they have interesting stories to tell? As if this trip wasn't enough for a lifetime, just previous to the Orien- tal trip, Roy and Shirley along with Jean and Harold Kyte, Ken and Dol- ly Lee and Kenand Doris Dargavel had enjoyed a Mediterranean cruise with many interesting stops with camel riding and other tourist at- tractions. We will be waiting for travelogues from these travellers. On Friday evening the Durham Region Ploughman's Association held its annual banquet and awards night at the United Church CE. Room with the U.C.W. catering the dinner. On Sunday morning in Mr. Davis' absence the guest speaker was the Rev. Ruth McKinnell of Enniskillen who gave a thoughtful sermon. Meeting in the Middle Plans are underway for the Anniversary Ser- vice next Sunday morning at 10:00 p.m. with the United Church Moderator Dr. Anne Squire as guest speaker. Members are asked to ring items for the Memory Table- thing to bring back memories of the past one hundred years of the church and also sandwiches and cookies for a 'Stand Up" lunch for a time of fellowship with Dr. Squire and our other visitors. On Saturday November 14 a Christmas Craft Sale will be held at the United Church with all types of interesting gift ideas as well as a bake table. This event will be open from 10:00 - 4:00. Christmas is closer than we might like to think. The Directors of the Agricultural Society are planning a 'Perk up the IFairgrounds' Dance at the Rec Centre on Nov. 28 with music by Dennis Franssen. Following the singing of O'Canada the graduates, parents and friends enjoyed a reception at thé high school. 'The Annual Graduates' dinner was held at the St. John's Anglican Parish Hall. After the delicious din- ner the teachers each spoke about the graduates giving many in- teresting ancedotes about each stu- dent and wishing them well in the future. The students had an ex- cellent opportunity to compare notes on their experiences since leaving C.H.S. last June. A most pleasant event. The Floor Hockey results - In the Junior Division the Bombers "bombed" the Leafs 8-4. Bradley Morton had a great game scoring 5 with Tommy Waters scoring the other 3 for the winners with Jason Lyons 3, Adam Stewart 1. In the Senior Division Blackstock Bruins defeated the Cartwright Canadians 7-5. Scoring for the Bruins were Mike Hepburn 4, Jay Buma 2 and Daryl Dutkewich 1. A thank you was given to Dora Martyn and her committee for organizing so well the Heritage Day programme at Cartwright Cen- tral Public School. Mrs. Hoogeveen will be paid and thanked for keep- ing the War Memorial so beautiful all summer. A donation will be sent to Operation Scugog.
