As a leader Herman Meijerink (1st Scugog Scouts, Manchester) pointed out, it was to have been a camping session in autumn weather. But Mother Nature must have had other plans, as snow and bitterly cold weather transformed autumn camping into winter camping. At least for Friday night and Saturday. Sunday was another story altogether, with mild temperatures | | 4 | 4 ; pc NE a ~- ba, ar hy » - } - tS Ny pe ba' "wt Fs A good time was had by all members of the 1st Scugog Scouts (Manchester Hall), who and plenty of ran. But despite the weather, the boys had lots of fun as they 'roughed it" in the wilderness' of Purple Hill, a '4 mile or so north of Shirley Road. There were hikes, campfires and games, as well as a few lessons in setting up camp, keeping warm in the cold, and cooking outdoors style. "We're just here for the weekend, enjoy ourselves, and do our own thing," Mr. Meijerink said. Scout leaders, by the way, are still desperately needed in Seagrave and Port Perry. Any adult with a few hours a week to spare, would truly enjoy the experience.
