a in rr 1 pap A From Sincerely Yours Baskets make great gifts 'Did Howard Hughes come up with his plan for making millions while drinking tea? Are the majority of Bay Street business decisions made over a cuppa? One wonders about the scientific connection between tea tippling and business. After all, many ideas are discussed over tea-cups, and one of Scugog's newest businesses is no exception. Heather Wray and Maxine Lavereau have been friends for six years or so. In that time there have been many discussions over cups of tea, and many ideas passed back and forth. Many of those discussions were centred around business. The two Seagrave area women had an idea, something that would transform them into entreprenueurs without giving up their titles as wives and mothers. . Their idea was to base a business out of Heather's home, on the 11th Concession east, preparing gift baskets for special occasions. Not just any baskets, but custom collections of fine gourmet foods and collectibles, tastefully put together _ for occasions ranging from bir- thdays, weddings, anniversaries, corporate promotions, babies-- anything. Heather and Maxine hemmed and hawed about this over many, many cups of tea, until they finally made a decision to go for it. Without fur- ther hesitation, they had business cards made up within 24 hours and promptly headed off to a major gift show in the city. That was last August. Since then, the two women have been busier than they had ever dreamed, setting up their first, official, registered business, called Sincerely Yours. The name comes from the bottom of nearly every greeting card and letter. What do people write before they sign their name? They write, PORT PERRY, ONTARIO PRECISION AUTO ELECTRIC Durham Rd. 8, 1/2 Mile West of Arena LOB 1NO of fun "Sincerely Yours," a line from the heart, and it was this line that Heather and Maxine thought summ- ed up the spirit of their business. After months of research, plann- ing, and buying, the pair kicked off their new enterprise with an open house on November 1st. Since then, they've been more than busy filling orders. As well as putting the baskets together, they deliver, and have already shipped off gifts to as far away as Florida and California. "We thought there really was a market for it,"" Heather says. And so far, it looks as though she's right. The baskets themselves make ir- resistable gifts. Here's a sampling of some of the things Heather and Maxine tuck in- side: handmade chocolates and truffles from Williams Chocolates in Whitby; imported mustards and pate, fancy crackers, caviar, special coffee (and yes, tea, every kind you could possibly think of), porcelain mugs, plush animals, preserves, wine jellies, wine, pot pourri, imported sponges, lotions, satin jewellry roll-ups, lace, satin roses, handmade knitting, balloons, champagne, crystal glasses--you name it, and Sincerely Yours can supply it. What's more, they can prepare a finished basket for $15 and up, and have it ready in approximately 15 minutes. For now, they're content working out of Heather's home, but Maxine admits there's a chance they may rent a store sometime in the future. "I know we're never going to be millionaires, but this is geared to our lifestyles,"" Maxine explains. "It's a lot of fun, we really enjoy it,"" Heather adds. "And it's been good for the kids because they see Mom in a whole new light."
