4-H Awards Night Local youths honoured | by Barbara Weese R.O.S. Specialist 4-H AWARDS NIGHT At the recent 4-H Awards Night, all summer 4-H clubs received their completion awards as well as several special honours won throughout the summer. Brent McLaughlin, Nestleton and Debra Van Camp, Blackstock were awarded the Top Boy and Girl Awards presented by the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Bowmanville, Newcastle and Orono branches. This most prestigious award is based on the member's contribution to 4-H as well as their knowledge of 4-H and current agriculture issues. Other prestigious awards were the Durham Milk Committee Ot- tawa Trip and the Ted Buttery Memorial Award. The Ottawa trip this year was won by: Wilma Benschop, Nancy Green, Shelley Holliday and Debra Van Camp. Music award recital On the evenings of Oct. 27 and Nov. 3, the O.R.M.T.A. (Ont. Registered Music Teachers Association) hosted 2 of their fall Awards Recitals. These recitals are designed to give recognition to the private music students of O.R.M.T.A. teachers, who have achieved a First Class Honour mark in the spring session of music exams. These pupils were given the opportunity to perform at the McLauglin Library in Oshawa on the 27th of October, or at the Oshawa Arts Resource Cen- tre on the 3rd of November. Follow- ing their performance each student was awarded with a Crest or Bar, and scholarships donated by in- dividuals or businesses were presented to the student with the highest mark of each grade. Several local students had the honour of participating and their performances were greatly enjoyed by the large attendance of parents, teachers and guests. Piano Grade I - Shauna Dixon, Melinda Delorme. Grade II - Michael Pothier. Grade III - Graham Holt. Grade IV - Lori Hall, Sara Hopkins. Grade VI - Sarah Croxall. Grade IX - Lisa Bailey. Singing Grade I - Sarah Phoenix. Grade II - Dana Beauchamp. Grade IV - Kerry Wilson (scholarship) Flute Grade II - Lisa Scott & Paula Willis tied for scholarship. These students are pupils of the following local teachers: Mrs. Paula Copithorn, Mrs. Jean Stachow, Mrs. Laural Griffen, Mrs. Janice White, Mrs. Eleanor Bailey. WINNER NAME THE. Three 4-H leaders were also recognized for their contribution to \ 4-H. Canada Council 4-H certificates \ were presented to George Sikma in recognition for 5 years as a 4-H leaders and to Dale Van Camp and Lawrence McLaughlin for 10 years \ as leaders.
