McClelland The Port Perry MoJacks pushed their un-defeated streak to six games as they feasted on the Madoc Hurricanes in Junior C action Sun- day night at the Scugog Arena. The Hurricanes have yet to win a game: this year, and the MoJacks were in no mood to be the first vic- tims as they skated to a 10-1 victory, firing 51 shots at the Madoc net in the process. The MoJacks have five wins and a tie in their last six outings and are comfortably in second spot in the Northern Division standings with 15 points, three back of the Lakefield Chiefs. The MoJacks were able to gain two points on the Chiefs who lost their first game of the season Sun- day night, falling 5-1 to the Bowman- ville Eagles. In Sunday night's match against Madoc, the MoJacks were never in serious trouble as they opened a 3-0 lead by the mid-point in the first period on goals by Rob Baker, Steve Ashby and John Harman. Baker slid home a back-hand after a nice pass from Rob St. Jules; Ashby drilled in a rebound and Har- man one-timed a shot from the cir- cle after a pass from Dean Smethurst on the power play. Early in the second, Darren Nesbitt upped the score to 4-0 before the Hurricanes got on the board on a goal by Dave Brownson as the Mo- Jacks were a man short. Just prior to that, MoJack goalie Paul Goreski made two outstanding stops in a row. This was the only time in the game where Goreski and Brian Tarleton were really tested by the Madoc shooters. With just two minutes left in the second, defenseman Chris Edmond- son made it 5-1 with a nice second effort to slap in his own rebound Techaoiog es HEAT E MIRROR R-4 from a sharp angle. The third period belonged to the MoJacks completely as they fired 25 shots at Dan Elliott in the Madoc cage. Dave Burnett, Rob St. Jules, Chris Edmondson (with his second of the game) Steve Ashby (also his se- cond) and Dean Smethurst rounded out the scoring in this chippy contest which threatened on several occa- sions to get downright nasty. Edmondson's goal in the third period was one of the nicest plays of the evening. He managed to track down a clearing puck at the Madoc line, moved to the deep slot and fired a perfect low shot through a crowd in front of the net. Edmondson pro- bably enjoyed his best game to date in a MoJack uniform (two goals, one assist). His defensive work along the blue line was solid and he show- ed he's a threat to score with that low, hard shot. Kevin Long, with two assists, also enjoyed a fine game, as did Rob Baker who got the first goal and con- sistently used his size and strength to muscle Madoc players off the puck. Although the game was scrambly in places with a fair amount of hack- ing, there were some solid body checks thrown.-The hardest hit of the night was dished out by Darren Nesbitt who caught Brownson with a shoulder and the Madoc player had to be helped from the ice surface. Referee John Kane was determin- ed not to let this game get out of hand and was liberal in handing out penalties, 13 minors to the MoJacks and ten to the Hurricanes. Game time Sunday night at the Scugog Arena is 7:30 P.M. Atoms win Consolation In game one, Malmont Atoms ex- perienced the meaning of frustra- tion. It was almost heartbreaking to outshoot the opposition 31-10, hold a wide edge in play and outskate the Oshawa Bruins and ultimately lose 1-0. Malmont had their chances, par- ticularly Joey Broadworth with at least three glorious opportunities, but bad luck and an excellent Oshawa goaltender spelled the dif- ference. Chad Kearns was chosen the most valuable Malmont player. It was a hard game to lose. Oakwood was the opposition in game two which Malmont had to win to stay in contention. With ex- cellent determination, the Malmont Green Machine beat a good Oakwood squad 2-1. David Bourgeois took a Joey Broadworth lead pass and scampered home free from the blue line for the games first tally. An- drew Jones got a well deserved assist. There was no scoring in a well played second period. Early in period three, Jay Tred- way with hard work and good puck control fed the puck to Jeremy Geer who cleanly beat the Oakwood goaltender. Chad Kearns drew the other assist. Oakwood had the bet- ter of period three and really had our Malmont boys hemmed in at the end of the game. Steven Gilbert was very strong in goal and Jeremy Geer was chosen Malmont's most valuable player. The consolation championship game was indeed a battle. Malmont was really up for this game against a very aggressive Peterborough squad. All the scoring took place in the second period when Malmont got four and Peterborough one. Joey Broadworth banged in a re- bound for the first goal with Mike Labanovich assisting. Malmont's second goal was a neat Chad Kearns effort with David Bourgeois and Brent Lawson assisting. Malmont's third goal was scored by Joey Broadworth through excellent puck control swooping from behind the net while David Bourgeois was creating havoc in front ot the Peter- borough goal. Malmont's final goal was scored by Neil Mueller on a nice effort with Jeremy Norton assisting. The third period was scoreless but became very rough. The Malmont players deserve much credit for keeping their cool against a very ag- gressive Peterborough team. Hard work, character and total effort by all Malmont players resulted in a sweet victory. No one demonstrated this more than Brent Harper who was chosen Malmont's most valuable player. Mike Pashley was again strong in goal. The defense was consistant throughout the tournament allowing only four goals. Scott Heasman was very effective and Brent Lawson and Jeremy Norton were very good in this championship game. Con- gratulations to Malmont for a well earned consolation championship. Tough luck for | The novice boys skated to a 3-3 tie on Friday night against the Stouff- ville team. Both teams proved to be evenly matched. Playing extremely well for our team was Kevin Gray with 2 goals and assists going to Brad Morten, Mike Heasman, Jeff Clarke and Tim Fitzpatrick.-Our third goal for the evening was by Daryl McEnaney assisted by Tommy Chambers. On Saturday the boys travelled to Ennismore for a tournament. Their first game did not go in their favour as it was 2-0 for Pickering. Port played extremely well, they dominated the game and outshot their opponents. However we could not get one past their goalie who played exceptionally well as he was named M.V.P. for their team. M.V.P. for our team was Tommy Chambers. The second game of the day mat- ched us up with Keswick. We ended up with a tie at 6-6. the Auctioneers Again the boys played terrific hockey showing how strong they are and making the puck work for them. Playing a terrific game for Port was Tommy Chambers as he scored 3 goals. Also scoring for Port was Darryl Moase assisted by Matthew McClelland and Todd Parry. Tim Fitzpatrick also put one in their net assisted by Jeff Clarke. The final goal was by Kevin Gray assisted by Kent Johnston. Assists were earned by Brad Shanly and Daryl McEnaney. Jason Logan was consistent in his defense, as well as Mike Morden and Brandon Ham- mond in our net. This tie was not enough to earn us a spot in the championship game. M.V.P. for our team in this game was Darryl Moase. We will continue to play hockey this coming weekend as we have 3 games lined up with the first one on Friday evening in Port Perry at 7:00 p.m. See you there!
