20 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, November 24, 1987 including beautiful crafts and delicious baking, were created by the Villa residents who should be proud of the results. Mayor Jerry Taylor and the jolly old elf San- ta Claus himself were on hand to officially open the Port Perry Villa's first ever Christmas bazaar, held Saturday afternoon. All the items for sale, Nursing Home news by Wendy Clark I can feel the spirit in the air as Christmas is quickly approaching us. Monday, Nov. 29th we had a Wheel of Fortune game. Today we had 3 big winners. They were: I. Burtis, A. Hyland and D. Archer. A craft session was held on Tues- day. Everyone got involved making angel tree ornaments. Church ser- vice in the evening was provided by the Port Perry United Church. Wednesday we had a manicure. Being Remembrance Day, we gathered together for our two minute silence to remember all those who died for us. We also sang a few war-time songs. In the even- ing the Craft Club held its meeting here and the residents were welcome to join in. To-night's pro- ject was making pomanders. They really smell nice and will certainly make nice gifts. On Thurs. we Had another after- noon of working steadily on crafts. Thank you to Kathleen Petrie who was a big help today. During the you this power? Poe is beautiful. Power is a rush. The rush. Guest speaker for the even- ing was Mrs. Joan Aldred who spoke on "What it is like to be a Volunteer." The volunteers got together and formed a visitation committee and a card club. Several volunteers received special pins if they had accomplished 60 hours or more of service. Special mention goes to Mrs. Dorothy Walker for the most hours which has accumulated up to 314 hours. The evening was an overall success and everyone cer- tainly enjoyed the wine and cheese. Thank you to all those who attended. Friday the 13th -- OH NO! -- I did not hear of anyone experienc- ing any bad luck on this particular day. The ladies spent the afternoon busily preparing Xmas Puddings which will be our feature item in the Mistletoe Tea Room at our Christmas Bazaar. Monday, Nov. 16th was Movies. Everyone enjoyed the movie titled "The Crown & The Jewell." Being such a nice day, some of the residents were able to get out for a walk in the refreshing air. The following day was extremely busy. We had all sorts of activities going on in the afternoon. For our talented voiced residents, they were busy practising Christmas Carols -- some of the ladies were busy baking while others were busy finishing up craft projects. In the evening, the Port Perry Christian Reform Church provided a lovely service. On the 18th, the Resident's Coun- cil gathered behind closed deors for their monthly meeting. The main discussion for this month was the plans for their upcoming Xmas Par- ty. Also the majority decided that we will be making a donation to Operation Scugog. Crafts was held again on Thurs- day with the ladies busily making Advent Calendars. We also got together to decide on prices for several items. To end this second week we had a Bingo match on Friday, Nov. 20th. Congratulations to all the lucky winners. Birthday wishes are extended to- Mrs. Joanne Lunney (Nov. 25), Mrs. Mabel Burgess (26), Mrs. Sadie Ayers (26), and Mr. John Doupe (27). The residents and staff would like to extend their sincere sympathy to the families and friends of Mrs. Gladys Zenglein and of Mrs. Maude Brown. Mrs. Zenglein passed away on Sunday, Nov. 8th while a resident in the hospital. She had gone into the hospital a few months ago with a possible stroke and she really never regained her strength. She was always a very caring woman and we will certainly miss her. Mrs. Brown passed away quietly on Wednesday, Nov. 18th. She had been with us for the past few years now, but has slowly been deteriorating over the past months. Upcoming gvents over the next two weeks are Shopping Trip (Nov. 26), Nursing Home Bazaar (Dec. 5) and Picture Day (8). We would all like to extend a warm welcome to two new residents. We have Mrs. Jenny Stur man who has moved into her new quarters with her loving husband on the third floor. Jenny has come from the neighbouring Villa. Also a warm welcome goes out to Mr. Horatio (Ray) Kane who also previously liv- ed in the Villa but has been in the hospital for the past few months. Don't forget to come to our Annual Christmas Bazaar on Sat. Dec: 5th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be several vendors selling quite a variety of items. Also be sure to get your lucky ticket for the draw onour Xmas Surprise Box.
