8 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, November 24, 1987 Random Jottings (From page 6) This is not to say that others in the business com- munity are not doing a good job of thier own stores, but a lot of the traffic they are experiencing on week- ends can be attributed to the advertising spin-off be- ing done by Settlement House. Port Perry is very fortunate 'o have such an attrac- tive main street, but equally fortunate to have people like the Mitchell's who are not afraid to spend some money to promote their business, and at the same time help the entire business community. It's too bad that a few more merchants don't get on the bandwagon and help them defray the cost of ad- vertising Port Perry. Even the Township should get behind this endeavour as a healthy business section only helps to make Port Perry a more attractive place to five, work or play. ONE WOMAN'S VIEW by Chris Carlisle (From page 6) dangerous they are to a woman's health. Woman dies of suffocation- -corset cinched too tight. Women paralyzed from waist down liken- ed to tight blue jeans syndrome of the 80's. Skin-tight corsets press on nerves, causing paralysis. Never mind not being able to breathe. Think of how the skin will look when the corset comes off. All that skin--flabby skin yet-- scrunched up under there will be more wrinkled and unappetizing than an elephant's leg. And numb! But when the pins and needles set in, they'll blame it on modern menopause complicated by fluoride in the drinking water because it'll only be middle-aged women suffering it. However, it'll really be the corsets. You can't breathe; you can't bend in a corset. You can't even think properly because the blood can't circulate freely. Destroy them before it's too late! If in doubt, think flab. A girdle will turn you to flab in a flash. And then you'll be addicted to a life of horror with no hope of escape- -wearing the corset because you're getting flabby; putting it back on because you're getting even flabbier. For you stomach's sake, _ say no now! 9 Yesterday's Memories (From Page 5) production. The Central Ontario Museum Association and the Port Pariy Tennis Club are two of several Durham Region organizations award- ed Wintario grants recently. The museum received $1,050 and the Tennis Club received $610. Uxbridge council has requested the Ministry of Transportation and Communications to install flashing lights at the intersectiions of Reg. Members of the Junior Choir all modelled the lovely clothing. Thanks to the three mothers Alice, Catharine and Linda who were most charming models. There were several lucky "Draws' then we went to the Sunday School rooms for hot cider and dozens and dozens of beautiful small Christmas cookies with time to place an order to help the choir to obtain their new gowns.
