prin " ad ol ls nn J LO HO RN J ETE rer ry Bb dr HARE The Malmont atoms met a strong Cobourg team for the first time this season on Friday night. This was an outstanding gmae -- fast, crisp checking, good goaltending and on- ly three minor penalties. The first period was scoreless. Scott Heasman scored the games first goal early in the second period on a spectacular rink length rush. Clay Scott earned the assist. In the third period, Cobourg scored twice to take the victory 2-1. Steven Gilbert had another strong game in goal. On Saturday, Malmont tangled with the Oshawa Bruins in Oshawa. Malmont won this time 2-1. While Atoms lose 2-1 the score indicated a close game, our big green machine considerably out-played the Bruins. Oshawa scored their only goal in the first period. In the third period, David Bourgeois tied the game on a long shot from his right wing. This goal seemed to pick Malmont up. Steady Jay King scored the game winner on a blast from the point after receiv- ing a good drop back pass from Jeremy Geer. This was a good game to win but the Malmont boys admit it was not one of their better efforts. This week they have two tough away games in Bowmanville and Cobourg. Goalies sharp The novice boys saw plenty of ac- tion this weekend as they played 3 games in 3 days. On Friday they travelled to Stouff- ville and came away with a victory of 3-2 with Port taking the lead by the end of the second period leaving Stouffville behind and unable to catch up. i Leading to our victory was great effort given by our goaltenders Mike Morden and Brandon Hammond. Scoring for Port was Daryl McEnaney 1 goal, 1 assist, Jeff Clarke 1 goal, Tim Fitzpatrick 1 goal, Tommy Chambers 2 assists and Kevin Gray 1 assist. On Saturday the team travelled to Lindsay for an exhibition game. It started out as a fairly matched game until late in the second period when Lindsay took the lead and we were unable to catch up. We saw plenty of action and a good strong defense line of Kevin Gray, Jeff Clarke, Brad Morton and Jason Logan. Scoring for Port in this game was Tommy Chambers 1 goal, 2 assists, Kent Johnston 1 goal, 1 assist, Mat- thew McClelland 1 goal, Darryl Moase 1 goal and Todd Parry 1 assist. Good team work boys! The boys have an early morning practise this week with a game Fri- day night at 7:00 p.m. against Cobourg and a tournament to follow on the weekend in Beaverton. Belles hosted the team from Scarborough, another in our league that is of "A" calibre and again we were shown some good passing and scoring abilities. Qur girls who are improving each time out-played one of their better games of the season and were holding their own until the last five minutes of the game when we seemed to tire and Scarborough scored 6 goals to make the final score 11-1. Scoring for Port in this game was Michelle Ryan assisted by Colleen Yorke and Jen Pelow. That same evening we travelled to Beaverton to play an exhibition game. The girls skated well and defeated Beaverton 9-8. This game was close in score as we seemed to show the effects of the game earlier in the day as we allowed Beaverton to score some goals late in this game. T.C. seemed to lack her sharpness of earlier in the day in goal and PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, December 1, 1987 -- 29 Beaverton were still coming on strong right up to the end of the game. Scoring for Port were Michelle Ryan 4 goals, 2 assist, Sherry Har- ris 3 goals, 1 assist, Colleen Yorke 1 goal, Vicki Reid 1 goal, 2 assists, Kim Caudle 2 assists, Dana Forder 1 assist, Tina Soomre 1 assist and Lisa Francis 2 assists. The players and coaching staff would also like to welcome back this year Val White who didn't earn any points on the weekend but certain- ly worked hard on defense her first games played this season.
