An esteemed older member of the community, Mrs. Elva Toms passed away following a lengthy il- Iness. Sympathy is extended to her three daughters Eileen McLaughlin, Helen Dorrell and Wilma VanCamp and their families. The funeral ser vice was conducted on Sunday at the Wagg Funeral Chapel by Rev D Davis Mr. Roy Smith of Scugog St. N who although he has not been well for some time, passed away very unexpectedly on the weekend. Sym- pathy 1s extended to Mrs. Smith and her family members. Roy's funeral will be held on Wednesday also from Wagg Funeral Chapel. Several friends are in hospital. In Port Perry are Bill Johnston and Jennie Bailey in Oshawa 1s Roy Morrow and in St. Michael's Toron- to 1s Floyd Argue who is progress- ing well following kidney transplant. We wish all these patients improve- ment in the coming days. At the United Church regular morning service the Sacrament of Baptism was conducted when Lind- say Ann daughter of Karen and Paul Radford was received. The Santa Claus Parade in Port Perry on Saturday afternoon was a fine success and a great credit to the organizers. Many residents of Cart- wright were among the large crowds of old and young alike who enjoyed the annual event. Twenty-five members attended the Senior Citizens annual meeting and Christmas dinner which was held on Monday at the Recreation Centre. A delicious turkey dinner with all the trimmings was prepared and served by Toms- Tripp caterers. President Pat Porrill conducted the business in which the year's ac- tivities were reviewed. Executive for the coming year will be President - Pat Porrill, Treasurer - Meta Swain, Secretary - Ann Taylor. Several draws took place for the many lovely door prizes and gifts that had been kindly donated by merchants and friends in the area. The weekly card party on Tues- day evening had 10 tables of euchre players with the following winners: 1. Richard Manns, 2. Bernice Wells, 3. Ann Taylor, 4. Betsy Staniland, 5. Muriel Lawrence, 6. Russell Brown, Low - Mary Poots, Draws - Ivan Cochrane, Bernice Wells, Kathleen Watts, Faith Lawrence. This week the party will begin with a pot luck dinner at 6 p.m. with cards beginn- ing at the regular time of 8 p.m. All who enjoy the game of euchre are invited to attend. At the Floor Hockey Junior game the Bombers outscored the Leafs 12-9. Scoring for the winners were Brad Morton 7, Tommy Waters 4, Ronnie Kelly 1 while Dillon Weber 6, Jason Logan 2 and Douglas Lynde 1 were the Leafs scorers. In the Senior Division the Bruins defeated the Canadians 4-3. For the Bruins scorers were Dutkewich 2, Mike Hepburn and Martin Stubbs 1 and for the Cana- dians Brendon Agnew, Mike Leach and Kendall Chorostecki each scored once. Ralph Larmer and Merrill Van- Camp attended the Federation of Agriculture annual meeting last Monday - Wednesday held at the Constellation Hotel in Toronto. Jean and Bill Ferguson, Alan Ferguson and Shelley Henderson, Revin Ferguson enjoyed their an- nual Christmas gathering at the home of her brother Hugh and Shirley McKee and family at Nor- wich. While there they visited Jean's mother Mrs. McKee in the nursing home. A small but enthusiastic crowd en- joyed a find dance on Saturday evening sponsored by the Blackstock Agricultural Society: The door prize was won by Ethel Lafontaine and the beautiful basket of groceries was won by Sandra Hoskin. The music was provided by Dennis Franssen, D.J. Many of you may have seen Steven Kyte's picture displayed at the Oshawa Sears Store. Con- gratulations for being chosen the boy representative from Oshawa Sears. Now he advances to the Na- tional contest along with winners from each Sears Store across Canada. This contest is open to boys 8-14 years of age in a search for modéls for the Sears Catalogue Best wishes Steven Barry VanCamp along with two other cloggers attended the Interna tional Clogging Conmipetition and Convention in Texas over the weekend. Kathleen and Albert Watts were Sunday evening guests of Mabel and Fred Dayes in their new home in Port Perry. Also present for the din ner were Lorraine, Charles and Col- leen Andrews of Prince Albert Denis and Jo McLaughlin, Aaron and Bradley, Whitby hosted a fan ly gathering to celebrate Bradley's second birthday and Roy's birthday.
