He Said that will change not so much because of the recent rul- ing, but because there are girls now playing Pee Wee and Atom House Leagues who enjoy the game so much, it's likely they may continue to play when they reach Bantam age. As for girls on rep or all-Star teams at any age level, the recent ruling gives them the right to try out and to make the team if the coach feels they are good enough. While Mr. Steele said minor hockey organizations all over Canada must abide by the ruling, he personally can't understand the "double standard' aspect of the rul- ing which stated that boys are not permitted to try out for all female teams. McClelland A six game un-defeated streak came to a screeching halt for the Port Perry MoJacks over the weekend as they lost two games to the Uxbridge Bruins and the Lakefield Chiefs. On Friday night in Uxbridge, the MoJacks appeared to be on their way to victory as they built a 4-1 lead in the first period. But that lead vanished in the second frame as the Bruins scored five times to even- tually win this one 7-6. In front of a large crowd Sunday night at the Scugog Arena, the Mo- Jacks came up against league- leading Lakefield Chiefs who scored three times in the third period en route to a 6-4 victory. It was the se- cond time this season the Chiefs have defeated the MoJacks at the Scugog Arena. Over in Uxbridge Friday night, the MoJacks spotted the Bruins an early goal in the first period, then went to work with four straight as Robbie Baker, Steve Ashby, Rob St. Jules and Ashby again turned the red light. Darren Nesbitt, in his first game in two weeks assisted on all four markers for the MoJacks. The Bruins got one back in the final minute of the period as the Mo- Jacks took a 4-2 lead into the dress- ing room. But it was a completely different story in the second period as the wheels came off the MoJack attack and the Bruins rapped in five un- answered goals to take a 7-4 lead. Acutally the MoJacks did score once when Rob Baker drilled a shot just under the cross bar, and the puck bounced out quickly. Referee Dean Warren and the linesmen ruled no goal, despite the pies: of the MoJacks. : The MoJacks came to life in the third period to make a game of it as Len Giacalone and Darren Nesbitt clicked on the power play to narrow the margin to 7-6. And that's the way it ended. On Sunday night at the Scugog Arena, the tough, hard checking Chiefs came out of the chute in a hurry as they peppered Brian Tarleton with numerous shots and Jamie Reynolds and Scott Wainman scored within 60 seconds late in the period to open a 2-0 lead. But the MoJacks got one back ear- ly in the second when Nesbitt flip- ped home a back-hand, and less than a minute later, Dave Burnett took a clever pass in front from Steve Fountain and drilled the puck by John Cole in the Chief net. Dave Houghton scored for the Chiefs on a breakaway at 3:58 before the MoJacks tied the score at 3-3. Greg Warriner pounced on a re- bound in the Chief crease. The turning point in this game was mid-way through the second when the Chiefs ran into a string of minor penalties and the MoJack power play could not get a puck in the net. In the final period, the Chiefs took control of the game firing a dozen shots at Tarleton while the MoJacks could manage just five at the other end of the ice. The back-breaker came at the mid-point when Dave Hughes of the Chiefs scored on a short-handed breakaway to give Lakefield a 5-3 lead. They added one more before Dave Burnett tipped in a loose puck in the final two minutes to end the scoring with the Chiefs i in front 6-4. This was a hard-hitting hockey game that got chippy at times with both teams taking numerous minor penalties. In the second period, the Chiefs Scott Rogers got a big Christmas present from referee Dave Wedlake. Rogers got into a scrap with the MoJacks Dave Culbert. He dropped the gloves, ripped off Culbert's helmet and threw several punches before the linesmen broke the skirmish up. Incredibly, Culbert and Rogers both received the same penalties-fighting majors and game misconducts. Rogers probably should have been tagged with in- stigator and aggressor penalties and a match for grabbing the face mask, but he got away with it. The Mo- Jacks John Harman also picked up a game misconduct on the same play for failure to go to the bench. The Chiefs, however, were full marks for the victory. Their hard checking kept the MoJacks off stride through much of the game, and they made the most of their scoring chances. The MoJacks were missing three defensemen for this game. Dave Sims, Chris Edmondston and Rob Metcalfe are out of the line up for various reasons, and forward John Hartford saw limited action due to a sore shoulder. Steve Fountain was back in uniform for Sunday's game after sit- ting out a two game suspension and (Turn to page 4) a jinx The Malmont Farms Atom A's ended an extended losing streak Fri- day night, when Scott Heasman scored with just over a minute left, salvaging a 1-1 tie with Stouffville. The game featured stellar goaltending by Steve Gilbert, as he recorded over 20 saves to hold the shutout until the third period when 'Stouffville scored their only goal. Some of Port's best scoring oppor- tunities were nullified by penalty calls, as both Chad Kearns and Ken- ton LeFort were hauled down on ex- cellent chances. The Clippers totall- ed 5 minor penalties but some inef- fective power play resulted in Steve being forced to make some impor- tant saves on the shorthanded Clip- pers. By doing so, he kept the score close enough for the late heroics. Kenton Le Fort fed the puck to the corner, where Jay Tredway made a nice pass to the point and Scott fired a high shot to gain the tie. SUNDAY, DEC. 27th - 7:30 PM Port Perry VS.
