Nathan picked up the assist on the goal, along with Gavin Cochrane Port's final goal was a hard cor- ner shot by Steve Laird, after Jason Cochrane won the face-off for Port. On Friday night the Legionaires were home to play a game with the fathers, and what a game it was. With all the tymbling around on the ice, it was hard to tell who came out the winner. On Saturday, the boys had to get back to some serious hockey as they met up with the Bowmanville Toro's Pee Wee team and skated to a 5-0 victory. Bowmanville came out swinging Rec Comm meets The next general meeting of the citizens committee for recreation facilities in Scugog Township will be held January 14 and new members are welcome to attend. The meeting will be held in Township offices on Perry Street, starting at 7:30 PM. The committee was formed last fall by a group of citizens from Scugog to explore the possibility of bringing a recreation facility to this community. At a meeting earlier this month, the executive committee decided that the $50 membership will be a voluntary fee, and plans are now underway to legally incorporate the committee as a charitable organiza- tion for tax receipt purposes. Meanwhile the planning and operations committee will be tour- ing other communities in the New Year to view the recreation facilities there. An information package will be put together from this committee's observations. Don't forget the January 14 general meeting in the council chambers starting at 7:30 PM. Auctioneers had a busy weekend The Novice boys met up against Bowmanville on Friday night and had their work cut out for them. 'They continuously had their moves put into action but the puck was stolen several times giving the op- ponent lots of scoring action. We did manage to put in two good goals in their net through strong team work. But the final was 10-2 for Bowmanville. Scoring for Port was Kevin Gray 1 goal, Darryl Moase 1 goal, Todd Parry 1 assist, Tim Fitzpatrick 1 assist and Kent Johnston 1 assist. On Saturday the Pearce team travelled to Port Hope for a tourna- ment. Our 1st game saw us match- ed up against a team from Camp- bellford. It was a fairly evenly mat- ched game with both teams getting plenty of shots on net. However, we managed to come out on the top end with a score of 4-3. Scoring for Port in this game was Tim Fitzpatrick 2 goals, Tommy Chambers 1 goal, 1 assist, Daryl McEnaney 1 goal, Jeff Clarke 1 assist, Jason Logan 1 assist and Kevin Gray 1 assist. Mike Morden did an excellent job minding the net. M.V.P. for this game was Daryl McEnaney. We again had our work cut out for us as this put us in the ""A" round. Our second game saw us matched up against a team from Belleville. We had our hopes high for a win, but it was soon to elude us as the scor- ing started early in the 1st period for Belleville and continued to hit our net. Netminder Brandon Hammond was kept on his toes throughout the game and proved to be very helpful. The score ended up 6-0 for Belleville. However, our effort did not go un noticed as the M.V_P. for this game was Todd Parry. Defensemen Mike Heasman and Brad Morton were terrific on the blue line as were forwards Kent Johnston, Brad Shanly and Matthew McClelland. The boys had to win this game to continue to the championship round. The staff of Bob Spencley, Murray Empringham, Ken Parry and Greg Heasman wish the boys a Merry Christmas. : Port Midget B's win 8 straight The Port Perry Canadian Tire Midget B's continue to find the win- ning touch as they now have gone eight games without a loss after get- ting off to a slow start early in the season. Over the weekend, the Midget B's were at a tournament in Havelock and won three games to capture the A division title It was a strong team effort from all the players as the games were fast skating and hard hitting The Midget B's opened the tour- nament with a 4-3 victory over Oshawa. In the second game of the day, Port Perry again defeated a North Oshawa team by a narrow margin of 5-4. And in the championship match, Port Perry tripped up Peterborough by the score of 6-4 The coaches and managers are pleased with the way the team has performed over the last few weeks to push their undefeated streak to eight games On December 30. the Midget B's will have their work cut out for them against tough competition at a tour- nament in Uxbridge. The Legionaires outshot the Toro's 31 - 18, and goaltenders Shawn Larocque and Rick Hutchin- son both had to play well to keep Bowmanville off the scoreboad.
