PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, December 30, 1987 -- 9 Local boutique owners answer What will YOU wear on New Year's Eve? Wendy's Boutique owner Wendy Davis opts for a stunning 'one-piece sweater dress knitted from the softest angora, and glamourized even more with sparkling gold applique. Claudette Brock, of Brock's Department Store, slips on some all- out glamour, fashioned out of pure, hand-painted silk. The dress, and other one-of-a-kind designs like it, are created by designer Ruth Sedgewick of Oshawa and sold at Brock's. There's nothing boring about this ruffled mini, glitzed up with metallic glitter. Strawberry Threads owner Lynn Turner shows off what should be the most popular style of the season for young women. a 'Tis the season to sparkle, no doubt about it! There's no better time to put on the ritz than on New Year's Eve, a chance to shed the everyday and dress to the hilt. If for only one night a year, everyone can feel like a million bucks. Especially this season, with pomp and glitz the hottest looks on the New Year's Eve fashion agenda. In women's boutiques all over Port Perry, the word is glitter -- glitter on black, opulent rhinestone jewellery, flashes of metallic thread, and the satiny shimmer of silk. Just for the fun the Star asked the owners of several Port Perry boutique owners what they plan on wearing this Thursday night, and the response was unaminous. Glitzy! Bright! Hot! Every one of the five participants in our photo shoot came through with ultra glamourous outfits. Lynn Turner, owner of Strawberry Threads, donned a perky ruffled mini-skirt in navy blue, laced with metallic silver threads. The three saucy ruffles flounce cheekily above the knee, making this outfit perfectly comfortable for dancing the night away. Comfort, by the way, is the key consideration for Bonnie Dur- ward of Country Classics. Her two-piece oversized shirt and skirt, tailored to the nines, is guaranteed comfort -- even through a long night of feasting and fun. Bonnie's choice, in a silky blue, can be tuck- ed in or worn loose, and is dynamite when paired with sleek silver accessories. Silver played a big part in Jean McDermott's choice for New Year's Eve. The Dor-Jean's boutique owner selected a slinky white jersey with an uneven hemline and lots of silvery glitter accents, in- cluding a jacket made entirely of glitter. Just the dress for captur- ing the spotlight at any New Year's Eve extravaganza. Wendy Davis of Wendy's Boutique, also chose a glittery dress for New Year's Eve. Her selection is a soft black angora dress, highlighted with gold lame flames. For good measure, she added a gold lame headband and lots of gold jewellery -- not to mention her natural raccoon coat, a Christmas present last year from her husband. Claudette Brock, on the other hand, decided on something more delicate, and infinitely feminine. Her Ruth Sedgewick original (made in Oshawa ) is pure, hand-painted silk in many shades of pink, trimm- ed with silver. Each Ruth Sedgewick piece is one-of-a-kind, and a good selection is available at Brock's Department Store. And although most women have already picked out something for New Year's Eve (time's running out!), there's still some great outfits left in Port Perry stores, for last-minute shoppers. So if you have a chance, get out and browse, and discover that these five women already know ---- everything you need is right here in Port Perry! £3 og : aay Glitter is what's really hot for New Year's Eve '87, and Jean McDermott of Dor-Jean's is right on key with a dynamic two-piece ensemble (dress and jacket), dressed up with silver glit- ter. Jean's pumps from Durham Shoes. 5 3 Bonnie Durward of Country Classics likes all her clothes comfor- table -- New Year's Eve is no excep- tion, so she combines style and com- fort in this soft as silk shirt and over- sized blouse in a brilliant shade of navy blue.
