Prince Albert and Area News by Earline Armstrong Roxanne Dennistan travelled down from Windsor, Ontario to join Lloyd and Beth Pereman and fami- ly then they all travelled down to White Lake to join Beth's Mom and Dad on the farm for Christmas. Mr. and Mrs. Terry Hodgins had son Kevin and his girl Lisa from Toronto on Christmas Day along with Grace Cherrie, Eileen's Mom. And Heather phoned home from Australia to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and after temp. of 37c, Heather is looking forward to a good old Canadian Christmas next year and we are looking forward to see- ing you Heather. Myrtle Snelgrove travelled back to Sunderland and had Christmas with her son Bob and his family. On Saturday Dec. 26, Myrtle was in Lindsay visiting Mr. and Mrs. Noral Marshall. Mr. and Mrs. David McCullouch from Quaker Road were in Cobourg on Christmas Day with their son Rae and his family. They also had the pleasure of hearing from their other son Ian in Lethbridge, Alber- ta last Sunday evening by way of telephone. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Armstrong and Mr. and Mrs. Brian Armstrong and girls along with Leonard Webb from Oshawa travelled to Campbellford on Christmas Day and joined the rest of the Kerr clan at Keith and Betty Kerr just north of Campbellford. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Martyn had all their family home, Mr. and Mrs. John Lake from Oakwood, Mr. Ralph Lake from Lindsay, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Martyn and Nikki and Brandan from Islington and Mr. and Mrs. Alan McKeawn from Woodville. At the Jones farm out on Simcoe St. S., there were Andrea's sister from West River, Maryland, Judy and her husband Davis Craven, also Steven, Alan, Jane, Sarah, Russell, Terry, Mr. and Mrs. Herb Jones and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lindsay. Lots of help to do milking. At the Brough home just west of Prince Albert, Diana's Mom, Doris Pierce from Oshawa spent Christmas Day. Mr. and Mrs. Alan Murphy and -- OBITUARIES -- Shirley Wheeler Shirley Isabelle Wheeler passed away at her home in Blackstock on October 18, 1987. She was in her 54th year. Shirley was born December 15, 1933 at the family home in East Whitby Township, which is now Oshawa, Ontario. She was the daughter of Leida Toaze and Frederick Hobbs. She has one older brother Robert Ted Hobbs. Shirley received her schooling at Harmony Road Public School, Oshawa Civic Vocational Inst. (now O'Neill Collegiate), and took a Secretarial Course at Oshawa Business College. She worked for the Oshawa Radio Station CKLB (now CKAR). While working there, she met her husband Bob Wheeler in 1952. They were married September 13, 1952 at Albert St. United Church by Rev. Harry Atkinson. Shirley then went to work for Cliff Mills Motors until qutting before the birth of their first son Michael in 1954. They moved to R.R. 2, Blackstock in 1955, where Shirley spent the rest of her life. She raised four more children, Barbara, Timothy, Linda and David. When the children were young, Shirley belonged to the O.N.O. Club and was a Cub leader and Guide leader. She returned to the work force in 1978 cutting fur at home for Paula Lishman. In 1981, she went to work in the Lishman Studio, where she worked until her lung cancer was . diagnosed in December 1986. Shirley had an operation in January 1987, but it didn't stop the spread of cancer and she died Oc- tober 18, 1987 after a gallant fight. She is also survived by six grandchildren. Shirley Wheeler rested at the Wagg Funeral Home in Port Perry. A Funeral Service was held at Blackstock United Church on Oc- tober 21, 1987. Interment Cartwright Union Cemetery. Rev. Dale Davis officiated. The many floral tributes and donations to the Cancer Society and Blackstock United Church were gratefully appreciated. Pallbearers were nephews Shawn and Ron Wheeler and close friends Pat Por- rill, Glen Grove, Glen Larmer and Carl Adams. M. Mary Bowles Marguerite Mary Bowles passed away November 29, 1987 at the Com- munity Nursing Home in Port Perry after suffering a stroke. She was in her 79th year. Marguerite was born May 16, 1909 in Epsom, Ontario. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Margaret Bowles. Dear sister of Frances Bowles of R.R. 4, Uxbridge. Marguerite attended school in Ep- som and Uxbridge. She was employed at the head of- fice of the Singer Sewing Company until she took early retirement in 1965. As an honourary member of our heritage community, Marguerite will be especially remembered by the community for her dedication for many months of hard work in research and informa- tion for the compiling of our area heritage history. Miss Marguerite Bowles rested at the Wagg Funeral Home in Port Perry. A Funeral Mass was celebrated by Father Grima in the Church of the Immaculate Concep- tion, Port Perry on December 1, 1987 at 11:00 A.M. Internment, Sacred Cemetery in Uxbridge. Then on Dec. 27, they hosted a fami- ly dinner for the Andrews side of the family, with 13 sitting down to eat PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, December 30, 1987 -- 19 hristmas the time for family get-togethers at Lorriane and Charlies on Mary Street. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Glanville and children travelled up to Toronto on Christmas Day and joined the rest of the Glanville gang for dinner at Bob's parents Mr. and Mrs. Jim Glanville. Christmas visitors with Merv and [lean Pugh were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Solomon and children and Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Pugh from Trout Creek. On Sunday Ilean and her Mom Pearl Gostick visited Ilean's brother Gor- don who is in St. Michaels Hospital in Toronto. Don't forget the card parties will start again on samara 7th in the Prince Albert Hall. Please remember also, the party for the Jackson family on Dec. 30 in the United Church basement. Mr. and Mrs. Sandy Moore spent Christmas Day in Oshawa at Mr. and Mrs. Larry Ashton. Their other girl Louise, joined them as well. Florence Smith spent Christmas Day in Seagrave guests of her daughter Marion and her family.
