This winter will continue to be mild, with very little snow, makingit-a tough winter for skiiers and snowmobilers. 7. Last years building boom of some $40 million in build- Ing permits will not be reached this year. In 1988 building will slow down with about $28 million in permits being issued. 8. In local politics, Mayor Jerry Taylor will retire after ten years as the head of the community. Also calling it quits this year will be Regional Councillor Lawrence Malcolm and councillor Neil McLaughlin. 9. There will be a three way race for the position of Mayor after Taylor announces his retirement. 10. Harvey Graham will be the Mayor of Scugog Township following the election next November. Prince Albert and Area News by llean Pugh On Christmas Day, Les and Grace Beacock were with her sister Mary and Lavern Devitt and family in Oshawa along with relatives from Toronto and Burlington. Roy and Dorothy Hope had Christmas for their family. Those attending were Anne and Greg and children; Lori and Andy; Rick and Kim and baby. Also Danny, Darrin and Troy. Bryan and Judy Beacock held Christmas for Judy's parents from Blackstock. Mr. and Mrs. G. Lehmann had their sons, wives and family from Manilla and Orangeville for the day. Shelly Dearborn has been spen- ding the holidays at home with her parents Harvey and Ruby and will be returning to Guelph this week. On Dec. 27th, all the immediate Beacock family and grandchildren were entertained at the Bryan Beacock home on Shirley Road. Miss Joan Warren spent a couple of days at Christmas with her cousins at the Carmichael home in Castleton. Fred and Vivian Canning, Lisa, Eddie and friend were dinner guests at son Davids in Little Britain on Boxing Day. ~ On Wed. evening about 80 people turned out to the pot-luck supper and farewell for Rev. Some of the UCW ladies with the help of some of the men presented a humorous skit. Terry Hodgins acting as MC asked the Jackson family to come forward. They were presented with a lovely oil painting and some china pieces. Glenn expressed his thanks in song which he wrote to the music of "Durham Town,"' which was most fitting and well done. Thursday evening about 70 people gathered at the Community Centre for the annual New Years Eve dance. Dave Jamison was the D.J. for the evening. Everyone enjoyed a good night of dancing and good food. While everyone was enjoying themselves there, some other peo- ple had s6me very bad luck that afternoon. This was Gordon and Donna Churchill on the Island. They had lost everything when their home was gutted by fire. A box was put at the door and as people left the dance, they dropped in some money -- $122 in all. The committee in charge of the dance after all ex- penses were paid put money in and $250 was turned over to the family. The Port Perry/Prince Albert Pastoral Charge welcomed Rev. Lucille Gray, Howard Hall, Sheldon Smith and William Ringham were appointed for a two year term to the Community Memorial Hospital Board.
