The team travelled to Pickering Village on Wed. night and defeated Pickering 8-1. Steve Laird opened the scoring on a well executed pass from Jason Cochrane. In the second period the Legionaires added four more goals to take a 5-1 lead. Steve Laird with a blistering shot from the blue line, got his second of the game. The second league game was played on Friday night on home ice against the hard hitting Stouffville team. Stouffville was first to score. Port was quick to tie the game on a. goal by Steve Laird assisted by Simon Traynor and Jeff Parry. Stouffville again took the lead. Late in the second period, David Pashley won the face-off, fed the puck to Brad Moase who put it between the goalie's legs to again tie the game. The Legionaires went ahead late in the third. Duane Empringham won the face-off, passed the puck to Steve Laird who fired ore on the net and Jeff Parry was there to tip it in. The final goal was credited to Brad Moase, assisted by Jason McBride and Steve Laird. The Legionaires worked hard to win this game 4-2 as Stouffville picked up 32 min. in_ penalties. On Saturday, the Pee Wees took part in 'a tournament in Lindsay. Jason Cochrane was unable to par- ticipate due to a shoulder injury sus- tained in Friday night's game against Stouffville, but he was on the bench to lend support to his team. Port played their first game against Milton. By the end of the first period the Legionaires had a three goal lead. Duane Empringham opened the scoring with the assist coming from Steve Laird. Steve Laird then scored on a rebound from Jeff Parry and Simon Traynor. The third goal was the result of a fine effort by Duane Empringham and Steve Laird from behind the net. The puck was pass- ed out front to Jeff Parry who put it past the Milton goalie. The winning goal was also scored by Jeff Parry with Duane Empr- ingham and Daryl Vander Slagt assisting. : "Steve Laird was awarded the M.V.P. Award for this game. The solid goaltending of Shawn Larocque and Rick Hutchinson kept Milton off the scoreboard to give Port the 4 to 0 win. The second game of the day saw the Legionaires up against a strong Scarboro team. This proved to be a very physical game with fast end to end play. Scarboro won this match 2100, but it was no easy win as Port fought hard to the last whistle. This loss put the Legionaires out of the tournament but all the boys can be very proud of their efforts. This weekend the Pee Wee Legionaires will take part in a two day tournament in Milverton. Hopefully, Jason Cochrane will be The Lake Scugog Lumber team from the Port Perry Atom House League took part in a recent tournament in Whitby. While the team lost three games by close margins, MVP honours were handed out to John Hall in one game at left, and Matt Brown in two games.
