Five judges spent several nights touring the streets, gradually nar- rowing down the many entries to three winners in each section of town including the northern section (north of Queen Street): the southern section (south of Queen Street); and Prince Albert. The winners of the northern sec- tion were Debbie Dell, on Cochrane Street, first; Susan Short, Cochrane Street, second; and Mrs. Parkinson, Lilla Street, third. The winners of the southern sec- tion were Ralph Forsyth, Caleb Street, first; Debra Duck, Lilla Street, second; and Robert Hall, John Street, third. The winners in Prince Albert were Stan Grills, King Street, first; Sarah Douglas, Simcoe Street, second; and Jennifer Smith, Union Street, third. Each of the winners received (or will receive) gifts from the many merchants who participated in the contest. The overall winner, Debbie Dell, will receive six prizes in total. The runner-up, Stan Grills, will receive four in total. Organizer Gary McWilliams said judging 'was simple, but it wasn't simple. We kept on narrowing it down." As for the overall winner, Debbie Dell's door, he said, 'She pretty well had decorated everything. It really espoused to me the old recollections of Christmas." : He was also pretty impressed with runner-up Stan Grills' efforts, say- PART o bay OF 26 To the Peoples of the World A BAHA'I STATEMENT ON Peace IN CONTEMPLATING the supreme importance of the task now challenging the entire world, we _ bow our heads in humility before the awésome majesty of the divine Creator, Who out of His infinite love has created all humanity from the - same stock; exalted the gem-like reality of man; honoured it with in- tellect and wisdom, nobility and im- mortality; and conferred upon man the "unique distinction and capfci- ty to know Him and to love Him", a capacity that "must needs be regarded as the generating im- pulse and the primary purpose underlying the whole of creation." We hold firmly the conviction that all human beings have been created "to carry forward an ever- advancing civilization"; that "to act like the beasts of the field is unwor- thy of man"; that the virtues that befit human dignity are trustwor- thiness, forbearance, mercy, com- passion and loving-kindness towards all peoples. We reaffirm the belief that the "potentialities in- herent in the station of man, the full measure of his destiny on earth, the innate excellence of his reality, must all be manifested in this pro- mised Day of God." These are the motivations for our unshakeable faith that unity and peace are the attainable goal towards which humanity is striving. Originality was one of the main points looked at by judges, who were more likely to be dazzled by hand- . made decorations than by purchas- ed items.
