PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, January 19, 1988 -- 15 Oh no, it's time for the dreaded exams Cartwright High S8chool News by the students by Claire MacKenzie Oh no - EXAMS! Yes, it's that time of year once again and at C.H.S,, students are busy studying for finals which run from Jan. 22-27. Jus new semester begins on Feb. nd. Mr. Fletcher has arranged a downhill ski trip for Friday, Jan. 29th and Feb. 1st to Horseshoe Valley. Remember to bring in your money for this. If you saw some strange people wandering around Blackstock last Friday, don't worry. No, it wasn't Hallowe'en -- it was Spirit Day at C.H.S. Students dressed up as their favourite person to win points for their houseleague team. OOKPIKS & TIGERS tied for first, both receiv- ed 10 points. The costumes were judged by the teachers and first prize was won by Lorrie Swain & Christine Carter (Raggedy Ann & Andy). Second was Claire MacKen- zie (Charlie Chaplin) & third was Jill Van Camp (Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz). The Houseleague basketball schedule is drawing to a close with only the championship game re- maining to be played. The Ookpiks won the regular season and will meet the Alikats in a one game showdown. Remember -- houseleague volleyball is coming up after basketball is completed and we will be looking for anyone who is interested in playing. Don't be shy -- give it a try. Our Junior boy's basketball team is improving with each game & we wish them luck in their next game against Henry Street on Jan. 18th. The boys are battling against great odds as they didn't have a boys' team last year, and they are a little out of practice. Even though they have not yet savoured the taste of victory, I'm sure it will soon bé for- thcoming and we are proud of the ef- fort they are putting out. They need your support, so come out and cheer them on. Go Chargers! The first half of the curling season is drawing to a close. Scott Flet- cher's rink will challenge Esther Kelly's team for the championship while Shawn Hoskin's rink will meet Scott Simmon's team in the consola- tion game. Anyone interested in signing up for the second half of the season, please see Mr. Scott. Yearbook and graduation photos were taken on Jan. 8th. The date for retakes will be announced soon.
