The car, a 1975 Monte Carlo then quickly started to fill with water and began to sink in about seven feet of water. "But it took some friendly per- suading by Uxbridge Mayor Gerri- Lynn O'Connor Monday afternoon to get 4« somewhat reluctant Scugog council to change the postion it took on this issue two weeks ago. What Uxbridge Township wants Scugog to do is support an "in- vestigation of ' the potential benefits' of re-designating Durham Road 21 from Manchester to Goodwood as a provincial high- way and change Highway47 from No. 12 Hwy. to Goodwood into a Regional Road. When Scugog council first turned this request down two weeks ago, they were under the impression that such a re-designation would mean that gravel trucks which come from pits north of Uxbridge would end up travelling south on Highway 12 and then west on Regional 'Road 21, by-passing Ux- bridge completely. Council two weeks ago felt it would not be fair to residents of Cars crash in heavy fog, one man injured Thick fog was the probable cause of a two-car collision Sunday after- noon at the intersection of Durham Road 2 and Concession 10 at the "Ridges." | Although details are sketchy, a 1980 Camaro driven by Gordon Rogers of Blackstock collided with a 1985 Malibu driven by Walter Debres of 840 Dundas St. E., Whitby. The force of the impact caused the Camaro to catch fire but the driver and his passenger were able to escape with minor cuts and bruises. Walter Debres, driver of the ' Malibu, was trapped for over half an hour while firemen from Scugog No. 1 and'ambulance attendants work- ed to free him with the Jaws of Life. Mr. Debres received neck and back injuries, but his condition was unknown as of Monday. One of the first to arrive on the scene of the accident was fireman Jamie Donaldson of Port Perry, who grabbed a fire extinguisher from the ambulance to put out the engine fire in the Camaro. No additional information was available from Durham Region Police as of press time on Monday , neck injuries.
