Legionaires capture Milverton tournament The Port Perry Legionaires travelled to Milverton on Saturday for a two day tournament and came home with the Championship trophy. The first game was against a team from Harriston and Duane Empringham came out flying with the first two goals of the game. On his first shot he was able to pick a rebound from Simon Traynor and Jeff Andrews. His second shot hit the top corner of the net after receiv- ing a pass from Chris MacLeod. Port scored again with a great cor- ner shot by Jeff Parry, with assists to Steve Laird and Jason Cochrane. Steve Laird picked up our next goal when he poked the puck under the legs of the goalie, on a rebound shot by Je¥f Parry, assisting on the set- up was Gavin Cochrane. In the second period Gavin Cochrane made a great end to end rush and fired a great shot from out- side the blueline. In the final period Nathan Brown picked up his first goal of the game on a great passing play by Chris MacLeod and Dave Pashley. Dave Pashley came back with our next goal on an unassisted effort, where he deeked the goalie to make the score 7-0. Chris MacLeod scored a well deserved goal when he caught the open side of the net on a well ex- ecuted pass by Dave Pashley. Steve Laird also assisted on the goal. Dar- ryl Vander Slagt scored his first goal with the Legionaires when he played on forward and tucked the puck from around behind the net, between the goalie's legs. Jason Cochrane scored our final goal on his great backhand shot, after receiving the pass from Steve Laird, who picked up the original pass from Chris MacLeod. Thompson 702. ° PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, January 19, 1968 -- 23 Rich Hutchinson and Shawn Larocque shared the goaltending but neither had to do much work, as only 5 shots were made in total by Harriston. The final score of the game was 10-0. Steve Laird played a great game and was awarded the MVP of the game. The second game saw the boys teamed up against a hard hitting team from Clinton and the game ended up 9-4 for Port Perry. Steve Laird opened up our scoring on a side pass from Jeff Parry, and Jason Cochrane made the original pass to Jeff. Jason McBride scored our next goal on a shorthanded ef- fort with a great high shot and the assist went to Jeff Andrews. Steve Laird again scored for Port with the assist to Jason Cochrane. Duane Empringham scored for the Legionaires as he fell to the ground to pick up the pass from Brad Moase. Jason McBride also earned an assist on the goal. Jeff Andrews made a great end to end rush and caught the goalie high in the top corner. Steve Laird and Jason Cochrane earned assists on the goal. In the second period neither team scored and Clinton kept us well in check. We started to take a lot of penalties but came out with the win- ning instinct in the third period, and kept up the shooting. Jason Cochrane got our first goal with a blistering shot from in front of the net, the assist went to Steve Laird. Jason Cochrane scored again for Port with the assists to brother "Gavin and Steve Laird. Jason McBride got a great shot away and Duane Empringham won the face- off in Clinton's end. Brad Moase scored our final goal of the game with the assists to Duane Empr- ingham and Jason McBride. Shawn and Rick in net saw a lot more action in the game and had to work hard to keep down the scoring by Clinton. : Jason Cochrane played an outstanding game with his hard- work and scoring and was awarded the MVP for this game. In the final game the Legionaires beat out the team from Elma Logan "EVENING AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE with a 6-4 win. The boys came out sluggish in the first two periods and the score was 4-2 in favour of Elma Logan after the second. " However, the coaches got them fired up and the boys were able to pull it out of the fire. Steve Laird picked up our first goal of the game with a great pass from Jeff Parry, and Jeff Andrews also assisted on the goal. Jeff Parry scored our next goal in the second period when he came from behind the net and tucked the puck into the corner. Steve Laird picked up the assist. In the third period the Legionaires came out hot and fast and Jason Cochrane wasn't long before he made his backhand shot to catch the goalie unaware. Jason McBride made the pass and Steve Laird also assisted on the goal. Steve then scored our next goal with Brad Moase assisting on the goal. Jason Cochrane used his backhand shot to put us in the lead with the assist from Jeff Parry. Jason Cochrane scored the winning goal after winn- ing the face-off and shooting in the open net. The boys all played a strong third period, and Jeff Parry had a great game and was rewarded with the MVP for the game. Steve Laird played three outstan- ding games in this tournament and was picked for the outstanding MVP in the over-all tournament. Great work by all the boys throughout the tournament gave them their victory. The Port Perry Legionaires started their week off with a return match against Stouffville on Mon- day night and lost their first league game with a 4-1 score. The only Port goal was scored by Sean McEnaney who was helping out the team while Jason Cochrane was out with an injury. Assisting on the goal was Steve Laird and Jeff Parry. On Friday night the team hosted the Millbrook team which is new in our league and lost by a 3-2 margin. Scoring for our team was Jeff Parry and Steve Laird, with assists to Jason Cochrane (2), Steve Laird and Simon Traynor.
