Birthday celebration Party for Rev. Clarke Prince Albert and Area News "by llean Pugh Sunday Jan. 10 was a busy day for Rev. C. Clarke as he with his fami- ly and friends gathered to celebrate his birthday and later they con- tinued on to Toronto to True David- son Acres Nursing Home for a retirement service and party in his honour as he was finishing over seventeen years of service as United Church Chaplain being with them since the building of the building of the home. A short service was con- ducted hy Rev. Miller, Metro Toron- to Co-ordinating Chaplin assisted by Rev. Cynthia Scott of Dentonia Park the church where Rev. Clarke was minister of 1960-1974. Also in attendance was Rev. Mac- Donald of Don Mills. United. The Chapel was filled to capacity with standing room taken by those being in residence, staff workers, friends and several from the congregation. Near the close of the service Rev. Clarke gave a few heart warming remarks ending with the words of St. Paul in his letter to Timothy. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. A beautiful coloured picture of True Davidson Home was presented to Mr. Clarke along with a life membership pin and a birthday gift of china from Dentonia Park congregation. After the cutting of an attractive- ly decorated birthday cake all sat down to refreshments and cheery conversation and happy memories. Belated "Best Wishes' from all your friends in Prince Albert. On Sunday, Jan. 10 dinner guests with Merv and Ilean Pugh were Gordon and Agnes Gostick of Toron- to and their daughter Judith from Victoria B.C. and also Pearl Gostick. Wednesday evening the ladies of the U.C.W. braved a very cold night to attend their monthly meeting at the home~of Pat Love. Everyone was given a very wdrm welcome. The secretary read several thank notes from several shut-ins who had received a gift at Christmas time. The new budget was presented and passed for the coming year. The main pro- ject this year will be to hopefully start on renovations to the kitchen. After several other items of business discussed a lovely lunch was served by Diana Brough and Lila Clarke. Thursday evening the euchre players turned out for another euchre of fun. Eleven tables filled. Ladies: Berniece Wells, Ella Venn- ing, Ann Taylor. Men: Herb Jones, Elsie Pogue, James Redman. Lucky draws: Ilean Pugh, Mary Cannon. Lone hand series Myrtle Gimblett with lucky thirteen. The couples club will be having a night of cards and games on Satur- day Jan. 23 at the Community Cen- tre at 8 p.m. This is open to couples any age. If you are new in the area and would like to meet some new friends - come on out and join in the fun. On Saturday evening about ten couples travelled up to Castle Har- bour to surprise Keith and Sara Elliott to a house warming party in their beautiful new home. Everyone was made welcome and given a grand tour. The rest of the evening was spent visiting, a ping pong tour- nament, a sing song led by Charlie Andrews playing the guitar. A love- ly lunch provided by each couple. A great party. We welcome Rev. John Brown and Ernie Greenwood who will be organist for the winter months. Choir practice will be on Wed. at 7 p.m. The annual meeting date has been changed to Jan. 31 at 1:30. A pot luck lunch will be held after church before the meeting. After sufféring a very serious fall at work, Brian Beatty is making a very good recovery in Wellsley Hospital, Toronto and if he con- tinues to do so should be home soon. The ceremony was officiated by Father Alfred Grima. Given in marriage by her brother, Richard Honey, the bride wore a full length gown of organza with a train of lace. Her headpiece was of white roses and pearls with a waist length veil. The bride carried a bouquet of red roses, white feathers and pearls in a cascade arrangement. The groom wore a black tuxedo with matching red accessories and a red rose boutonniere. The matron of honour and the best man were Jodi and Brad Colby of Sunderland, friends of the bride and groom. Bridesmaids were Lynn Munn of Port Perry and Rhonda Snoddon of Uxbridge, both friends of the bride. Ushers were Brian Robinson of Uxbridge, brother of the groom, and Darryl Davis of Uxbridge, friend of the groom. The ladies wore floor length teal satin and lace dresses and carried mat- ching bouquets. The men wore black tuxedos with teal accessories. A very special attendant for the bride and groom was Master Scott Honey, nephew of the bride, who was their ring bearer. Scott wore a black tuxedo with tails and carried a satin and lace pillow which matched the attendants' bouquets. The wedding reception was at the Port Perry Legion. The master of ceremonies was Mr. Maurice Jeffrey, the bride's uncle. The couple honey- mooned in Niagara Falls and will be residing in Sunderland.
