36 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, Janvary 26, 1988 ~ Table talks tabled at Institute meeting by Connie Haigh The January meeting of Scugog Island Women's Institute was chaired by the President, Mary Ostrom. Presentation of bursaries was discussed briefly and names of the - successful candidates will be an- nounced by the Committee in the near future. The problem and cost of repairing or replacing the hall tables was' discussed at length and was tabled for further investigation. Mean- while, Clara Dowson has em- broidered some tablecloths with the Women's Institute crest. Thank you, Clara -- they are beautifully done. Letters of appreciation were received from various local charities for our Christmas donations. It was announced that the Annual Canada-wide Women's Institute Convention will take place in New- foundland in June and it is an- ticipated that a telegate from Scugog Island will attend. A donation will be made to the food and clothing bank to be set up under the auspices of the Social Planning Council and Operation Scugog. After the business meeting the program and lunch was organiz- ed by Harriet Hunt's group. The February meeting will be convened by the Education and Cultural Activities group under the leadership of Lilo Czilok. All meetings convene at 7:30 PM TRANSPORTATION The transportation of the French Immersion students shall be the responsibility of the parents except where students reside on an existing bus route and space is available on the bus or van. Existing routes will not be altered to accomodate French Immersion pupils. CLASS SIZE The maximum size of a unit of Kindergarten is 23 pupils. A Unit will not be established with less than 20 pupils enrolled. Pupils in excess of the class maximum of 23 will be wait-listed. Howard Hall, at centre was all smiles last Friday morning. And why not, as the fundraising committee chairman at the Port Perry Hospital, he was only too pleased to accept a nice dona- tion from the Royal Bank and the Commerce Bank branches in Port Perry. At left is Tom Mullen from the Royal and at right Commerce manager Jeff Fell. Each bank donated $2800 towards the new x-ray equip- ment fund. Miss Robin Benns of Oshawa was a supper guest on Sunday evening with her grandparents Alan and Norine Card. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Ashton and boys had lunch on Sunday with Keith's mother Ruth Ashton. Miss Pamela Armstrong visited Virginia Wilson on Friday morning. Jill Postma was hostess for a baby shower in honour of the newest lady on the 7th Concession, Miss Victoria Heather Ashton. Heather thanked all present for the lovely gifts to her little daughter. Rose Evans who has been holiday- ing in sunny Florida for a couple of weeks with her mother and father has returned. Rose, Neil and children had Sun. supper with Neil's parents Ross and Barbara Evans. You'll have to get up early next Sun. morning as church at Epsom will be at 9:45 so Goodwood can have their annual meeting and ser- vice at 11:00. You haven't forgotten you are all supposed to meet at the church on Sat. Jan. 30 at 7:45 for a pot luck supper. A community has to work together to stay together. If mother can't come maybe dad can.
