National Kinsmen Week is planned Port Perry Kinsmen are joing Kinsmen Clubs across Canada in celebrating Kinsmen Week, February 15-21. Our local club has been very ac- tive in the community in the past. Kinsmen have contributed funds, equipment and labour to Palmer Park, Blackstock Park, Green- bank Park, Perry Glen Park and Kinsmen Beach. The building funds for the Library, Hospital and Arena have all benefitted from Kinsmen fundraising. Kinsmen have for many years supported the Scouting and Guide movements, as well as minor sports. Students at our local high schools benefit from bursaries supported by Port Perry Kinsmen. The mentally handicap- ped have been provided with the use of the Kinsmen Hall free of charge for some of their activities. Port Perry Kinsmen work especially hard for the children (Turn to page 8) Driver injured Durham Police are in- vestigating a snowmobile acci- dent Friday evening which caused minor injuries to driver Andrew Ruesink of Port Perry and a passenger. Police say the snowmobile : caught fire after it rammed into * theroof of a truck which has been caught in the Lake Scugog ice near Honey's Beach for the last several weeks. More than $2,000 damage was done to the snowmobile. The ac- cident took place about 9:00 p.m. Friday evening. Free trade forum The Durham East Liberal Association is pleased to an- nounce that Harry Pelissero, Liberal MPP for the riding of Lin- coln will be their keynote speaker at a Free Trade Forum to be held in the Newcastle Community Hall (village of Newcastle) on Thurs- day evening, Feb. 18, 1988. Mr. Pelissero is well-known to the agricultural community as he is past president of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture and most recently chaired the ~ Federal/Provincial Crop In- surance Review Committee. Presently he is the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Tourism and Recreation as well as sitting on the Legislature's Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs. Mr. Pelissero is also a member of the Committee of Parliamentary Assistants for Small Business. The focus of the evening will be the effect of the Free Trade Deal on Agriculture and Mr. Pelissero will be speaking on the Provincial Government's concerns with this Deal.
