ATOM Lake Scugog Lumber 5 Port Perry Lions 2 Led by the steady goaltending of Kyle Simms and a balanced of- fence Lake Scugog scored a very convincing 5-2 victory. Potting goals for Lake Scugog - were Justin Wootten, Matt Mantel, Darren Kinnunen, Neil Hancock and Matt Brown, while Johnny Hall had 2 assists with singles going to Matt, Darren and Jeremy Stevens. Port Perry Lions were led by Jeff Griffen with 1 goal - 1 assist, Kevin McGrisken 1 goal, Sean Gawley 2 assists, and Jason Brown 1 assist. Lake Scugog Lumber 3 Tripp Real Estate 2 Once again Scugog's balance of offence led them to a very hard fought win with Neil Hancock fir- ing the winning goal with 2 minutes remaining. Steven Cochrane unassisted and Jason Phillips assisted by Sandy Mark replied for Tripp. Gord Lewis Motors 2 Whitby Auto Wreckers 2 In what was certainly a goalten- ding clinic Ian Johnston and Gavin Carnegie held their respec- tive teams in the game time and time again. Matt Hobbs unassisted staked Whitby to an early 1-0 lead. Late in the second period Brandon Puckrin on a nice pass from Jason Brain tied the 'game. Jeff Fletcher gave Whitby another lead only to have Shawn Lewerentz tie the game less than a minute later. It was then left up to the goaltenders and boy did they do a job with Ian saving the best for last as he made a dazzl- ing save on a breakaway with 10 seconds remaining in the game. NOVICE The second set of games in the round-robin playoff took place last Saturday, with Van Camp Contracting winning their second game in a row, with a win over Re/Max and Port Perry Printing squeaking out a victory over David's Hairstyling. Heading in- to the final games of the round- robin, Van Camp leads with 4 points, Port Perry Printing is next with 3, Re/Max Realty has 1 and Davids none. Port Perry Printing 4 David's Hairstyling 1 The teams played a scoreless First year The 1st year tykes have spent most of the season learning skills necessary to play the game of hockey. They played their 1st "real game' on Saturday and the coaches were pleased with the results. This game saw Don Forder's Insurance matched up against an equally strong Dowson's Valu- Mart. They played two 15 minute periods with 3 minute shifts and plenty of coaches on the ice for last minute instructions. Forder's opened up the scoring early in the 1st period and from then on both teams had plenty of action. The forwards were seen passing the puck with farily good accuracy and the defense was very strong on both teams. Scoring for Forder's Insurance first period in this one, but the Port Perry Printing team jumped into a 2-0 lead during the second. Davids fought back in the third and were finally rewarded for their efforts when Colin Outram scored on a pass from Derek Jansen. The Printers replied late in the period with two of their own to clinch the victory. Jason Hopkins led his team to the victory, scor- ing three big goals. Adam Jones fired a single, and had two assists as well. Matt Bengal and Chris Jamieson also had assists. Van Camp Contracting 4 Re/Max Realty 2 The Van Camp squad came out flying in this game and jumped in- to a 3-0 lead in the first period, on goals by Gavin Baxter, Matt Phillips, and Jason Robinson. Gavin also had an assist. Re/Max came back in the se- cond with two of their own, both scored by Justin Halligan, to make ti close. It was 3-2 after two. In the third, Matt Phillips came through with his second goal of the game to ease the pressure, and Van Camp hung on for a 4-2 victory. ICLOTY- BANTAM The Bantam House League teams - Emmerson, Frank, [.G.A. & Swamp started their round- robin playoffs on Thursday, March 3. Results are as follows: Frank 6 Emmersons 2 In this game Frank took an ear- ly 4-0 lead at the end of the first period. Frank displayed numerous team play in passing, goaltending and defense. Emmersons played well but the puck appeared to not bounce in their favour. Frank opened the scoring after 8 minutes of a scoreless period when Doug Adams was set up by 'Alex Cramner and Brad Bricknell. Less than 34 seconds later Frank's Adam Danter scored from Alex Cramner and Kevin Buscher. Frank's next two goals were scored by Chris McGill and Michael Butt and picking up the assists were Michael Butt, Rob Vanuden, Adam Danter and Chris McGill. Emmersons broke Derek Carter's shutout at the 10:38 of the second when Paul Kett scored from a nice passing play from Michael Toye and Vince Cris- cione. Less than one minute later Frank's Michael Butt scored unassisted to make the score 5-1 after two periods. Emmersons opened the scoring in the third period when Darcy Head scored from Vince Criscione and Paul Kett. Frank scored the final goal at the 10:50of the third period when Greg Kyle scored and assisting was Alex Cramner and Doug Tykes was Greg Bruton 4 goals, Mike LeFort 1 goal with assists going to Ryan McQuaid, Christopher Jones, Joel Van Camp, Ken Ellis, Chad Lance, Christopher Bron- son, Braden Tarbotton, Beau Joliceur, Bryan Brown, Sean Williams, Ryan Jansen, Derek Jansen and Ray Seager. Scoring for Dowson's Valu- Mart was Aaron Chambers 4 goals, Kirk-Clothier 1 goal, Derek Reid 1 goal, Mike MacLennan 1 goal. Assists were earned by Scott Risebrough, Nickolas Pelyk, Leigh McClymont, Ashleigh Mur- phy, Scott Brownson, Devon Symes, Matthew Cracknell, Russell Brown, Sean Jeffrey, Matthew McGarry, Todd Mitchell and Steven Schewaga. I.G.A. 3 Swamp 1 This game was scoreless until the 6:02 mark of the first period when [.G.A. scored on a goal by Mark Andrews on a nice set up from Peter Brock and Chris McConnell. Swamp's goaltender Noel Lovering was sharp in this and made numerous saves as the [.G.A. squad applied steady pressure. At the end of the first period I.G.A. was ahead 1-0. At the 10:30 of the second I.G.A. took a 2-0 lead when Peter Brock was set up on some nice passing from Neil Mark and Chris McConnell. After two periods I.G.A. were up 2-0 over Swamp. Finally at the 13:10 of the third period Swamp broke Brian Magill's shutout when Daryl Dutkewich received a nice set up from Barclay Phoenix to score and made the game 1-2. Swamp worked hard but could not get the equalizer and I.G.A. scored at the 8:30 of the third period to make the score 3-1. Scoring was Peter Brock on a nice pass from Chris McConnell. Round 2 Saturday, March 5 Frank 5 Swamp 2 Swamp had to win this game but unfortunately fell behind 3-0 before they scored their first goal. Frank opened the scoring at the 6:58 of the first period when Greg Kyle scored and assisting was Michael Butt and Alex Cramner. With only 1:20 left in the first, Frank scored to make the score 2-0 when Michael Butt turned the light on and picking up the assists was Alex Cramner and Adam Danter. Frank struck again with only 23 seconds into the second period when Michael Butt scored from Alex Cramner and Doug Adams. Both goalies played well - Frank's Derek Carter and Noel Lovering as there was only one goal scored in the second period. Swamp scored early in the third period to make the score 1-3 when Chris Cooper scored from Heath Hudson and Pete Simms. Less than two minutes later Frank scored to make the score 4-1 when Greg Kyle scored from Doug Adams and Michael Butt. At the 10:42 of the third, Frank's Alex Cramner scored to give his team a 5-1 lead and assisting was Rob Vanuden and Doug Adams. Swamp closed the scoring at the 10:05 when Chris Cooper scored unassisted and the final score was 5-2 in favour of Frank. Emmerson 4 1.G.A. 4 This game provided excitement for all the fans, coaches and players and ended to a well deserved deadlock 4-4. At the 10:42 of the first period Emmerson opened the scoring on a goal from Paul Kett and assisting was Tim Kyte. At the 8:00 of the first period I.G.A. tied the game 1-1 when Peter Brock scored from Neil Marks and Robin Hancock. With only 2:35 left in the first Emmerson scored when Darcy Head made a nice shot from Vince Criscione. Emmerson opened their lead to 3-1 at the 9:48 mark of the second period when Michael Toye scored on a nice pass from Darcy Head. I.G.A. cut the lead to 3-2 with only 3:27 left in the second period when Mark Andrews made a nice rush and scored unassisted. I.G.A. tied the game at 3-3 at the 11:50 of the third period when PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, March 8, 1988 -- 25 Minor Hockey House League action John Woodward scored from Mark Andrews. 1.G.A. took the lead at the 6:48 mark of the third period when Mark Andrews scored from Daryl Alexander. With only 3:32 left in the game when Tim Kyte scored from Dar- cy Head and Michael Toye. This game could have been won by either team, however, .G.A.'s goaltender Brian Magill stopped Emmerson's shooters as did Em- merson's goaltender Robert Ashton who stopped a breakaway. Once again both teams deserv- ed a well earned tie. The final round-robin game is Thursday, March 10, 9:00 p.m. Swamp vs. Emmerson; 10:00 p.m. Frank vs. .G.A.
