Bruton's I.D A. Petites travell- ed to Gloucester this past weekend to participate in the 13th Annual "Gloucester Interprovin- cial Ringette Tournament.' Port played in the Provincial Petite 'B' division and was one of five teams competing ffor the championship. Our girls won three of their four games in the round robin to ad- vance to the championship game. Game 1 Gloucester vs. Port Perry Port got off to a bad start and ended up losing to Gloucester 7-3. In a very tight Junior Floor Hockey game on February 29, the Beige Flyers edged the Blue Jays by a score of 5 to 4. Kevin Pike scored 3 goals for the Beige Flyers' while Mark Sauter and Jeff Gunn each connected with one goal each. In the net for the Beige Flyers, Mark Sauter and Steven Doan made one great save after another. For the Blue Jays, Adam Jones played sensational in net for the entire game. Scoring for the Blue Jays, were Kevin Duncan with 2 goals while Martin Van Ravenswaay and Jamie Sauter assisted with one goal each. In senior action play, the Green Giants couldn't do anything wrong while beating the Red Wings by the score of 15 to 6. The big shooters for the Green Giants were Kevin Pearce with 5, John Hall with 3 to earn his first hat trick of the season, Todd Stewart, Louis Whitfield and Scott Prechitko with 2 each and An- drew Jones with 1 goal. Playing in their net were Todd Stewart and Andrew Jones behind the defensive pair of Brandpn Johnston and Jake LaRose. 'For the Red Wings, Wade Sheedy was able to score 2 goals on the Green Giants while singles went to Blair Prechitko, Kevin Stewart, Mike Hepburn and Dan- ny Brown. Danny Brown and Scoring for this game were: Amy Parliament 2 goals, Lynd- say Dutkewich 2 goal, Brandy Harris 1 assist and Kim Poppleton 1 assist. Game 2 Port Perry vs. Waterloo Port dominated the game from the opening free pass and went on to win the game 7-4. (Score sheet not available) Game 3 Scarborough vs. Port Perry Bruton's 1.D.A. Petites were ready for Scarborough as in- dicated in the way they played Y floor hockey Mike Tripp shared the goalten- ding duties for the Red Wings. For the second week in a row the Intermediate boys game went into sudden death overtime but the score remained a 4-4 tie bet- ween the Scugog Rockets and the Shooting Stars. The Rockets led 2-1 after the first period on goals by Ryan Duff and Aaron Stiller. The lone goal for the Shooting Starts was scored by Kristian Holland. In the second period the Stars got goals from Matthew Koetje and Adam Jacobson but the Rockets were able to score one goal by Aaron Stiller so the period ended tied at 3-3. Mark Brown scored early in the third period to give the Rockets a much needed boost. But Matt Koetje of the Stars scored his se- cond goal of the game to tie the score at 4-4 late in the third period. There were some excellent scoring chances in the overtime but the game ended in a draw. Playing well for the Rockets on offense were Matt Youmans, Den- nis Goodman, Aaron Stiller (2 goals) and Andrew Jacobson. Playing well for the Stars on of- fense were Adam Jacobson, Matt Koetje, Jeff Vanderby, Doug Short and David Verschuuren. Wishing all the boys a happy March Break, they deserve it. . Printers play well Port Perry Printing met a team from Manvers and came out win- ners 5-2 in exhibition. The first period was scoreless but great ef- forts were made by Chris Jamieson, Derek Leeming and Mark Turnball. Bobby Cracknell worked hard to keep the puck in Manvers' end. Jason Hopkins scored eight seconds into the second period from a fine pass by Adam Jones. Aaron Levy scored the second goal from a beautiful pass by Adam Jones. Twenty four seconds later Troy Campbell scored from Aaron Levy. There Malmont Atoms win The Malmont Farms Atom A's hosted the Oshawa Major Bruins in an exhibition game Friday night, coming away with a 3-1 win. Jeremy Geer opened the scor- ing early in the game, picking up Kenton LeFort's rebound at the side of the net and stuffing it under the Bruin goalie. After the Bruins had tied the score late in the first, Scott Heasman put Port was no stopping Troy as he put the fourth goal in from Jason Hopkins and Chris Drury. Adam Jones scored Port's last goal after Danny Robinson pass- ed him the puck. Chris Drury played well on defense and special mention to both Matt Bengel and Danny Robinson to their excellent checking this game. Although Manvers didn't have a lot of scoring chances, Paul Shrigley played a tight game in net. Good luck to this team in their playoff game Saturday at 12:30 against Van Camp! back in the lead. Scott made some nifty moves on the left wing and finally ended up scoring on a Dave Bourgeois rebound. Mike Labanovich also assisted on the goal. Early in the third, Jeremy Nor- ton scored the insurance goal as he directed another of Dave's re- bounds into the corner of the net. Brett Lawson started the play to pick up an assist. Excellent goaltending, good passing plays by the forwards and great moves by the defense in clearing the ring out of their end resulted in a 74 victory in favour of Port Perry. Scoring for this game were: Amanda Webb 1 goal, Lyndsay Dutkewich 2 goals, Shannon Fox 4 goals, Amy Parliament 1 assist, Leea Kinnunen 2 assists, Michelle Fitzpatrick 2 assists, Brandy Har- ris 1 assist, and Karen Kett 2 assists. Game 4 North Bay vs. Port Perry Port got on the scoreboard in this game at 14:28 to take the lead 1-0. The action was carried end to end with many opportunities by both teams. Port scored their se- cond goal at 9:52 to go on and win the game 2-0. Scoring were Michelle Fitz- patrick 2 goals, Amanda Webb 1 assist and Amy Parliament 1 assist. Championship Game Port Perry vs. Gloucester From the opening free pass the play went end to end. Both teams were fired up with excitement and determination to win. Gloucester registered the first _ goal at 11:31. Port rebounded with a goal at 9:01 to tie the game 1-1. Atoms tie 4-4 The Pineridge Sports Atom No. 2 team tied Manvers in an ex- citing exhibition game 4-4 on Fri- day night. Manvers opened the scoring early in the first period, but within a minute Daryl Bourgeois broke through the defense and scored by putting it in the far corner. Craig Laird scored late in the first period when he put it upstairs from a difficult angle. Jeff Vernon assisted on this goal. Craig Laird scored the only goal in the second period when he fired it from just inside the blueline. Manvers scored two half way through the third period. Ricky Olaisen put Port ahead with a shot into the upper corner assisted again by Jeff Vernon. With 55 seconds left in the game, Manvers tied it up. Pineridge Sports met the LNHL Canadians in an Exhbition game Saturday in Oshawa and came out winners 6-2. Ryan Williams played an excellent game in front of the net coming out with a hat trick. Congratulations Ryan! Other goal scorers for Port were Ricky Olaisen with two and Jeff Vernon one. Assists going to Graham Holt three, Richie Tripp two, Ian Shrigley two and Jeff Vernon one. On Sunday our boys met the team from Little Britain but came out on the losing end 4-2. Port got on the board first on a neat goal by Kent Taylor assisted by Ricky Olaisen and Jeff Vernon when they caught Little Britain on a shift change putting them ahead 1-0. Port's second goal came when Ricky Olaisen slid the puck bet- ween the goalies legs. This goal was assisted by Richie Tripp and Kent Taylor giving Port a 2-0 lead. Little Britain then turned the' power on and scored 4 unanswered goals (one short handed and one into a empty net) giving them a 4-2 win over Port. Even though Port lost a fine team effort was put forth by all the players. Although Port is now eliminated from league play their 5 wins, 4 losses and 2 ties are nothing to look down at. We saw an excellent display of hockey, good sportsmanship, team effort, good goaltending -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, March 8, 1988 -- 27 Port Petites runners-up at Gloucester Port took the lead at 0:02 of the first period when Amanda Webb made a beautiful pass to Amy Parliament who deeked the defense and went in on the Gloucester goalie and scored in the top right hand corner, The second period became more tense as the teams put everything they had into their ef- forts to win. Gloucester tied the game with 4:46 remaining and went ahead to win 3-2 when they scored at 3:44. Port's loss meant they were runners-up in the tournament. Tweens lose 9-5 On Sunday, March 6, the Allen's Siding Products Tweens travelled to Lindsay for the last game of their playoffs. Our girls displayed a good all-round team effort. Although the Allen's Tweens came out on the losing side of a 9-5 score, they held Lindsay to a 5-4 lead until the final 5 minutes of the game. Scoring for Port were Mandy Porter with 2 goals, Valerie Payne with 2 goals and 1 assist, and Lori Buscher with 1 goal and 2 assists. Single assists went to Kelly Menzies and Chris Mueller. Keep up the good work between the pipes, Bristol! Thanks goes to Linda Payne for standing in at the last minute. Even though it did not appear on the score sheet, you earned a well deserved assist on Lori's goal. Everyone is hoping that Nicki and Kendra will quickly recover from their injuries. We need your help for the Regionals next weekend. Good luck next weekend girls, we know you can come away with a medal! Novice ringette Home Hardware's Novice Ringette team played their 2nd playoff game Saturday night at home against Oshawa. Port came on strong throughout the whole game. The first goal was scored 19 seconds into the game unassisted by Jenny Storms. The second goal, was scored 2 minutes later by Jenny Storms. Katie Senyk, our goalie played an excellent game, stopping shots on net. Final score: 5-2 Oshawa. Sunday we played in Ajax, but had a tougher time. Score 6-0. All the girls played real hard, but Ajax was a bit stronger. We are off to Peterborough this weekend for our Regional Tour- nament. Best of luck to all our teams who will be going.
