et ee em -- a, A -------------------- Obituary John Clifford Love was born in Ashburn, Ontario in 1903, one of 10 children born to Charles and Mary Love. The family moved to a farm in Greenbank where Clifford grew "up attending school and in those days, Greenbank Presbyterian Church, where he sang in the choir. He was also active in young peoples groups, hockey and amateur plays. .Always interested in cattle, Clifford started his own livestock transport business and in 1935 married Grace Miller from Toronto. As the business grew, Cliff became interested in buying and selling livestock, acting as an agent for farmers both locally and province wide. He also exported many cattle to the United States and Korea. During this time Clifford pur- chased the 'Pearce' farm on Scugog Island, where in later years he built a house and the family moved there in 1962. Cliff was very much involved with the community, where he was treasurer of the Missionary and Maintenance Fund of Port Perry United Church and later, _ an elder of Scugog United Church. Cliff was 58 years a member of Warriner Oddfellows Lodge, No. 75, Port Perry, a Past Noble Grand, and a Life Member. He was a charter Member of N.D.P. meets The inaugural meeting of the Durham riding Federal New Dem- ocrats will be held at Durham College in Oshawa on April 6. The meeting will get under- way at 7:30 PM in Room C319 at Durham College. The new riding of Durham, which came about as a result of re-distribution, takes in all of Scugog Township, Uxbridge Township, the Town of Newcas- tle and those sections of Oshawa and Whitby north of Rossland Road. Gillian Sandman, former MPP for Peterborough and newly elected federal NDP candiate for the same area, will be the guest speaker. After moving to Scugog Island, Cliff continued in the livestock business for about 16 years until ill health forced him to retire and he and Grace spent several winters in Florida. When it became necessary for profes- sional care, Cliff entered Fair- view Lodge, Whitby, where he liv- ed for 2'; years, passing away on January 24, 1988. Cliff was known as a kind and gentle man, hard working, a good business man with integrity, a loving husband, father and John Clifford Love active in community grandfather. He will be sadly missed by his wife Grace, daughter Barbara, three grandsons, Blair, Blake and Blane Paton, sister Elva Taylor and brother Clayton Love. A Funeral Service was held at the Wagg-McDermott-Panabaker Funeral Home in Port Perry on January 28, 1988. Spring Inter- ment Pine Grove Cemetery. Rev. Edith Bolton and R. McLaughlin officiated. The many floral arrangements and memorial donations to the Oddfellows and Rebekah Lodge building fund were gratefully appreciated. Activist to speak Well known womens rights advocate Maude Barlow will present an "examination of the current and on-going issues for Somer at a Tribute to Auberge The third annual fund raising dinner for Auberge/Sedna Wom- ens Shelter and Support Services will be held April 19 at the St. George's Ukrainian Centre in Oshawa. Maude Barlow is a former po- litical consultant and freelance journalist. She is founding presi- dent of the Canadian co-alition against media pornography, The Tribute to Auberge 88 will begin with a reception at 6:00 PM, dinner at 7:00 and the guest speaker at 8:30 PM. Auberge/Sedna is a shelter for abused women and their children. Serving all of Durham Region, the shelter is involved in coun- selling and referrals as well as public edcucation.
