The Port Perry Novice Auc- uoneers finished their 1987-88 hockey season on a positive note as they reached the championship game in the annual tournament Good Friday at the Scugog Arena. In the championship, the Auctioneers ran into a smooth skating and passing team from Gravenhurst. The game was score- less for two periods, thanks to some fine work by netminder Brandon Hammond. This was an exciting hockey game with plenty of end to end action and good scoring chances by both teams. In their first game of the day, played at 8:00 AM, the Auction- cers needed overtime to dispatch the Oshawa Bruins. After falling behind 1-0, Tommy Chambers with an assist from Kent Johnston tied the game, only to have the Bruins go P game of the annual Novice tournament at the Gravenhurst Cougers defeated the Port Perry game that was close all the way. The coaching staff of Bob Spencely, Ken Parry, Greg Heas- man and Murray Empringham really deserve a lot of credit for their patience and guidance with these young players.
