Ice goes out on April 4th Lake Scugog was freed from its winter covering of ice on Monday, April 4th this year, which is two days earlier than 1987 when it left on April 6th. Records at the Star indicate this is only the sec- ond time the ice has vanished from the lake on April 4th since records were started in 1872. In that particular year the ice held on until April 26 to leave Lake Scugog, making it the third latest date ever. The latest recorded date of the ice leaving Lake Scugog was April 29, in 1965; and the earliest date for seeing the water sparkle under the sun was on March 16, 1983, a span of six weeks difference. Based on the above statistics it would appear that 1988 will go down in history as an average year for the date of the ice leaving Lake Scugog. LES TAX!
