18 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, April 12, 1988 'Countess Maritza' sure to thrill Town Hall patrons Rehearsals are well underway for the Scugog Choral Society's spring production "Countess Ma- ritza" April 21, 22, 23, 28, 29, 30, and May 5, 6, 7th at Town Hall 1873 in Port Perry. _ The Operetta based in Hungary in the early 1920's is Directed by Vivian Lee, Musically Directed by Tom Millar and Produced by Richard Drew. It tells the delight- ful story of Count Tassilo (Walter Bone) who goes to work for the Countess Maritza (Catherine Mil- lar) as her estate manager, under an assumed name, to pay off his late father's debits. Even Tassilo's sister Lisa (Barbara Bone) is unaware of her brothers doing. Koloman Zsupan (Terry Paul) rounds off the four- some whose stormy love affairs Michelle Jones proves she is a great Gypsy dancer as she twirls to a tune by violinist Beako, played by John Brown. Sub leads are Don Tansley as Maritza's devoted servant Tschek- ko and Don Taylor as Prince Pop- ulescu and admirer of Maritza's. Cubs at church by Florence Ashton It was good to see such a fine turn-out at morning worship last Sunday morning. We were pleas- ed to welcome the First Ashburn Troop of Scouts, Cubs and Beavers, thier leaders and parents. Eric Straughan and Daniel Wright read the Scripture portions. Following the service, everyone joined together in the lower hall for refreshments. The Ladies Bible Class will meet at the home of Chrissie McKinney on Wednesday evening of this week at 8 o'clock. Plan to join with us at Burns next Sunday evening, April 17, for an evening of praise and worship with "The Watchmen' from Kit- chener, Ontario. Freewill offering and a social time to follow. Don't forget the workbee at the church on Saturday, April 23. The Kirk Guild will provide lunch. There were 9 tables of euchre played at the euchre party last Thursday evening.
