Epsom and Area News by Jean Jeffery Many in our area are interested in the Scugog Historical Society. There will be a general meeting April 14 at 7:30 in the Municipal Office, Port Perry, The guest speaker will be Mr. W. Winters an Archivist from the Whitby Museum who will talk about local history. General public and socie- ty members welcome. Keep in mind (or on the calen- dar) the hot ham and maple syrup supper at Goodwood Community Hall, April 21 at 5 p.m. Education Week (April 18-22) has been well planned for Epsom School. On Monday April 18, the Dairy Princess will visit all classrooms discussing the impor- tance of proper nutrition. On Monday afternoon, Epsom will be hosting a "Celebration of the Written Word." The children have put forth a consistantly good effort in Story Writing. Green- bank pupils will be their guests. On Tuesday afternoon, April 19, the staff and students and we hope several interested people in the community will enjoy a historical walking tour of Epsom. Some research has gone into this. Mr. Scott has received help from Mrs. Bailey and will share his findings On Wednesday morning, April 20, selected students will be going to Uxbridge Public School to at- tend "Annual Literary Guild." A little girl from Oshawa enter- tained with Scottish & Irish dances in costume. Mrs. Brandon accompanied her children when they played duets and a trio on the piano. The little girls aged (4 and 6 yrs.) also played their violins separately and as a duet. I marvelled at the precision and perfection with which they handl- ed the"instruments. Gord and Jill Postma spent Fri- day with his mother at Waterloo. Mr. and Mrs. Allan Thompson of Woodstock visited their daughter Nancy and her husband Gerald and family for the weekend. On Friday, Betty and Norm Tapscott joined them to celebrate Kelly's 4th birthday. Congratulations to Stella Asling on a recent birthday. Her daughter Pat had lunch with her on Friday. Joyce and Richard Lewchuk and family of Wiarton were with her parents Earl and Marie Wilson for a couple of days last week. We welcome Jeff and Natalie Burnett who are now living in the community and employed by Gor- don Postma. Several attended and enjoyed the Spring Sing at the Baptist Church, Saturday evening. Marlene and Ian Archibald of Zephyr visited her parents Sun- day evening. The Sweet Adelines of Uxbridge are competing in a festival in Syracuse, N.Y., an international competition.
