New Century 21 owner amazed at town's appeal Gerry Meharg has known about Port Perry for many years, but says he is astonished at the num- ber of people who desired to locate in the area. A real estate agent in the Stouff- ville-Uxbridge area for many years, Mr. Meharg told the Star that he was just not fully aware of the appeal of this community be- fore coming to town. Mr. Meharg was an independent real estate agent until about two years ago when his firm joined the Century 21 team, and he says he has been more than pleased with the results. Locating an office in Port Perry was a logical extension of their offices, and the opportunity came late last year, after the unfortunate - death of local realtor Howard For- der. "We really wcren't ready to make the move at that time, but under the circumstances it was ne- cessary", he said. Now with offices in Stouffville, Uxbridge and Port Perry, Mr. Me- harg says they are experiencing an increasing interest from Purchas- ers to live in a 'small town' at- mosphere. In fact, with the number of Cen- tury 21 offices located along the Lake Ontario Corridor from To- ronto to Bowmanville, he says they are getting many referral cli- ents anxious to locate in the Port Perry area. Mr. Meharg's son Brian, who is the manager of the Port Perry of- fice, told the Star that since they took over the business in January, they have experienced a significant growth in sales staff, now with eight agents, and another five at- tending school to earn their real estat licences. The Meharg's are very excited about becoming part of Port Per- ry's vibrant community, and Brian even admits to having a desire to move here, although Stouffville 3s been home for most of his life.
