Heading the talented cast was Tracy Doyle as Maria, with Kingsley Malcolm as Captain Von Trapp, Katie Mairs as Marta, and Claire Not- man as Sister Berthe. They were in the chorus as well and also Kim Headon was a chorus member. Director Mrs. Linda Elliot is to be congratulated on a super perfor- mance. Mrs. Sharon Putt was the capable pianist. To the Production staff, teachers and volunteers, many thanks for a most enjoyable performance. Past Matrons Club Meet A great attendance - (consider- ing all the activities within the area) for the past matrons club meeting on Monday, April 11, at the lovely home of Marg Jeffrey in Port Perry. President Marguerite Mitchell chaired the brief business meeting, assisted Farm accident Regional Police report a Township man suffered a fractured leg in a farm accident last Satur- y. : According fo plice, Joseph Tolpa of Concession 7, was working in the barn moving a hammer mill. The tongue of the tractor slipped and smashed into his leg, pinning him to the floor. He managed to free himself and summon help. He was taken to Port Perry Hospital for treatment. Fred Swann assisted by Susan Swann. Psalm 25 was read and Scripture Mark 5: 21-34. Miss Susan Swann spoke on the Scripture and gave a splendid messagere - "Healing By Faith." Holy Communion was . observed by Rev. Swann, assisted by Mr. Geo. Scott, and Mr. Barney McCabe. Mrs. Joyce Taylor presided at the organ. Following the service, a meeting of the Board of Managers was held. Cancer Campaign Notes The annual drive for funds for the Canadian Cancer Society is moving along well - the volunteers are engaged in an all out effort to have a successful campaign with Doris Taylor, chairperson, at the helm and 35 captains and 260 can- vassers...so we should have a tremendous year! We have received a very warm response from the interested public, as in past years, and we are deeply grateful. ~ Quite a number of new can- vassers are assisting this year and we surely appreciate their willingness to help! Each year of- fers a bigger challenge and a greater responsibility in our effort to raise funds to conquer cancer. Caesarea Euchre Those present enjoyed the Wednesday evening game of cards at the Caesarea Centre, April 13. But - let's have a better attendance! The girls in charge work very hard to have an in- teresting time for all...so - how about it euchre players??? First prize was a tie. Fred Lawrence & Lois Lowrey each held 73. We didn't realize that Dale had been in a serious car accident in December. Glad she seems to be her old self again...I believe the car was a write-off! Ila Sharpe of Lindsay spent a few days with cousin Neta Fish at her new abode at Nestleton. Later - another cousin joined them - Bernice Mason of Oshawa. A most enjoyable visit as they hadn't seen one another for some years. Neta took them to Sonya to visit Heather Munroe - who hasn't been too well. We wish for better health for Heather soon. Village goes birdy over road hog swan Motorists who drive Durham Road 57 south of Blackstock on a regular basis should be warned of a new hazard on the road: a Cana- da goose. A Star reader called Monday that he has seen a large Canada goose right in the middle of the highway on three different occa- sions over the past few days. He was there Monday morn- ing and again in the exact same spot in the afternoon. It must be spring when the birds start acting a little bit strange. Another Star reader called the office Monday morning to say she had seen a large white swan swimming in the lake south of the causeway. At first she thought her eyes were playing tricks on her, but on going home and getting her bird guide book, she confirmed that in- deed it was a large swan.
