But Sunday afternoon in Han- over, the MoJacks turned in a gritty performance to come from behind for a 4-3 victory in double over-time, After playing through a straight ten minute OT period, the lcams were in sudden victory when Greg Warriner popped the winner at 8:31, John Hartford drew the assist as he forced the puck from behind the Barron net and Warriner man- aged to poke it into the cage. Warriner did more than score the winning goal. Midway through the third period he le- velled Baron captain Steve Schenk with a crunching (and clean) body check against the boards. Schenk Jidwi play much after that hard it. This was a very physical and at times nasty hockey game with a fair number of high sticks and elbows, a lot of clutching and grabbing, and some pushing and shoving after nearly every whistle. At times, the pace slowed down to a crawl and hindered the free-skating style the MoJacks usually deploy. The Barons took a 1-0 lead midway through the first on a power play from Scott Ralston, and at 13:23 of the second, went up 2-0 on a marker by Dave Hop- kins : The second period was one the MoJacks would like to forget as they managed just three shots on Bill Nightingale in the Hanover net. But they came out with a lot more zip in the third and Dave Burnett had a great chance to score at 1:25 on a clear breakway. He's usually deadly on one on one's, but his back-hand was smothered by Nightingale. The MoJacks struck quickly at the mid-point when Rob St. Jules converted a goal-mouth pass from Dean Smethurst, and less than a minute later on the power Port Perry % Tennis Club mmmmmeee WANTED -cccaa-- TENNIS PLAYERS --- Young, Old, Beginners and Experienced. But the Barons Hopkins got his second of the game off a de- flection for a 3-2 lead with less than six minutes in regulation. At 16:25, Dean Smethurst sent the game into overtime when he tipped in a centering pass from Hartford and Kevin Long. Both teams took 19 minors in this game, and got away lucky as there could have been double that number. Len Giacalone and Barry Riff of the Barons got figthing misconducts for a scuffle in the middle period. Brian Tarleton turned in a clutch game in the nets for Port Perry, facing 28 shots. The Mo- Jacks managed 25 at Nightingale at the other end of the ice. GAME ONE In game one of the series Fri- day night in front of a loud and boisterous crowd at the Hanover Coliseum, the MoJacks saw the Barons score four times in the fi- nal frame, including the winner with 46 seconds to play. And they added an empty net marker with four seconds left for a 5-3 win. The MoJacks actually played a decent game and at one point led 2-1 as the line of Rob Baker, John Harman and Craig Menzies did all the scoring. Harman got two and Baker one. The series will continue with three games at the Scugog Arena starting this Thursday night at 8:30, followed by a 7:30 match on Saturday and a 4:00 PM facc- off Sunday afternoon. If the first two games are any indication, this will be a physical series. In fact, the two teams have already taken a bit of a dislike to each other, to say the least. Specialty teams (power Plays and penalty killing) will probably be the crucial factor in the out- come of the series. The Barons, who have been league champs the past three years in the Grey Bruce loop, finished this season in first place by a wide margin of some 20 points. They rolled over Port Elgin in one playoff scrics, then defeated Stayncr in six games for the right lo compete in. the all-Ontario Jun- ior C series. The winner will take on either Stoney Creek or Moore- town. The MoJacks, of course earned their berth in the semis af- ter defeating the Wellington Dukes in seven games on April 12 (see separate story) A large contingent of loyal Port Perry fans made the trip to Hanover for the first two games, and it is expected the Hanover supporters will be out in force for the next three games in Port Per- ry nes Gary Reis 316. oo High Triple: John Criscione 750.
