Just imagine, a succulent barbecue pork dinner with pie for dessert. Last Wed. evening the Bethesda Reach Women's Institute met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Beare for their annual meeting. (I will write a report of the business meeting next week). Now I must tell you about our wonderful "Fairfield" family, a wonderful puppet family presented a year ago to the area schools. Mrs. Doreen Brethour brought them to our meeting. The large puppets are about two to three feet tall. Children will love them. There are many hand puppets so the children can make up their own dialogues. There are tapes to be played. I'm sure any school that didn't use them last year will be delighted to have them visit their classroom this year. These children (puppets) don't like to be packed in their suitcase too long. And we did have a wonderful Progressive dinner party last week. It was so chilly we went in- formal and wore slacks and sweaters. Where there wasn't enough chairs we sat on the floor but everyone was happy. We were so pleased to meet our newest neighbours Mr. and Mrs. Vander Wekken and were so pleased to find that Steve hadn't forgotten us. We had fruit punch at the church, Nancy said "Grace", then at 8 p.m. we met again at Gord and Jill Postma's home for a salad course. After 'that, we continued our conversations at Keith and Faye Ashtons where we enjoyed our main course. Yes it was all buffet style. Later, much later, we wandered over to Paul and Shirley Basters for dessert and coffee. Everyone took dessert and ef ig | * + arnation Capagd For the first time ever, there will be a Carnation Campaign in Port Perry as part of the fund raising drive for multiple sclerosis. Make a Donation-----Wear a Carnation! In May. Shirley and Paul had just arriv- ed home from Toronto airport after seeing their two daughters off for a vacation in sunny Ber- muda. The desserts were wonder- ful and by now we had forgotten to count calories. Our hostess and host for the evening were Keith and Faye, Nancy and Glenn. Our thanks to them, also the Postma's and Baster's for the use of their homes. We hope Mr. Southgay who is a former organist at Epsom Church is soon feeling better. Best wishes from Epsom Friends. Congratulations also to Turner Ashenhurst who grew up in this area and farmed here til his retirement (I mean from farm- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, May 3, 1988 -- 17 ing). So- meone decided long ago that there should be a day for honouring all mothers for their sweet and thoughtful way, and if we traced its origin, I'm certain we'd find whoever started Mother's Day had one like you in mind."
