There was a beautiful Mother's Day Service at Epsom Church on Sun. conducted by the Sunday School. Each mother received a carnation. Deadline now for lessons Tuesday, May 10th is the deadline for signing up for tennis lessons. Announcements regar- ding registration times have been published over the past month, so if you haven't called to register, see us down at the courts tonight between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. or call 985-8948 or 985-0568. Fees are $15.00 for juniors and $25.00 for adults. The Port Perry Tennis Club feels it's very fortunate to have Jonathan Tammela teaching lessons to the adults and junior members this year. Jonathan is 19 years old and lives in Markham. His tennis coach mother introduc- ed him to the game when he was four years old but it wasn't until he was eleven years old that he started playing competetively. Markham's Jonathan made a strong showing last year at the National Junior Tennis Cham- pionship in London. He's hoping to win a tennis scholarship in the United States and plans to study Medicine. A diligent crew worked down at the courts last Saturday putting up windscreens and a general cleanup was done of the courts and surrounding area. A fun tournament is being held on Sunday, May 22nd with a barbeque following. More details of this 'season starter' will be given next week. The Monday night league sign-up sheet is posted at the courts, so sign up now and avoid disappointment. The emphasis for this league is fun and players of all levels are urged to participate. Remember, for fitness, friend- ship and fun sign up for tennis - the game of a lifetime! Service to patients The quality of life of people liv- ing with cancer is the focus of the Service to Patients program. Our support is made up of a wide spec- trum of services to help people re- enter the mainstream of life dur- ing and after treatment. Services are intended not only for rehabilitation but to foster the development of a positive attitude in people touched by cancer. This mission is carried out mainly by volunteers working through the Divisions of the Canadian Cancer Society. Their work is supported by the Society's April campaign.
