Vol. 122 No. 26 Wednesday, May 25, 1988 Copy 50° Dragon slays 'em at Ontario Festival Port Perry' s beloved "Dragon" ~ journeyed north last week and came home a huge winner. The Borelians production of "Nobody Loves a Dragon" won seven awards, including best pro- duction, in the Theatre Ontario Festival held May 17-21 at the Arts Centre in North Bay. Winning a coveted Yeisie" for best production marked the first time a childrens musical has been judged top performance in the "Theatre Ontario Festival. And there were individual honours for members of the cast sag well, Steve Foote was named best actor; Jennifer Fletcher took best actress award; and adjudicator awards for best musical direction went to Debbie Thompson and Tricia Fewer. Dragon also won for the best technical achievement, while di- rector Chris Rollo received an award for the outstanding contri- bution to the Festival by a wom- an. The Festival was adjudicated by Christopher Covert, who has worked in theatre across Canada and the United States and current- ly teaches acting at Sheridan Col- lege in Toronto. Along with the startling sweep of seven awards for Drag- on, the production had four other nominations: best visual presenta- tion; Corrine White, best support- ing actress; best stage manage- ment, John Foote and Sherri Todd-Meck; and best director Chris Rollo. A group of close to 30 Bore- lians in cast and crew made the trip to North Bay for the Theatre Ontario Festival competitions. "Nobody Loves a Dragon" represented the Association of Community Theatres against four other theatre areas in the province. Brother act for Scout and Cub 1st Scugog Scoutmaster Her- men Meijerink is pretty proud of his two boys, and well he should be His sons, Andy, 13, and Collin, 10, were recently awarded the most prestigious honours in local scouting. Andy was named Scout Of The Year. Collin was named Cub Of The Year. The award is presented each year to those boys who have proven themselves enthusiastic and dedi- cated to the scouting movement; they must have excellent atten- dance, they must get along well with others, they have to want to work hard. The award was initiated to hon- our the memory of Tony Goslin, a Scout who was killed in a traffic accident. In April, at the annual Father & Son banquet, the awards were an- nounced, and both Andy and Col- lin say they had no idea they would win. Andy thought "Wow" when his name was announced.
