PORT PERRY STAR -- After being turned down by Scugog council and Durham Region The developer of the proposed Oak Meadows subdivision south of Port Perry says he won't give up his fight to get approval and will ask the Ontario Municipal Board for a hearing. _ And developer Doug Wilson said he may seek support for his proposal for the Ontario Housing Ministry, in light of recent com- ments from the provincial premier that municipalities should be try- ing to make affordable housing available. The 32-lot Oak Meadows sub- division has been rejected by Scu- gog Township council, and was also turned down last week by Durham Region council. Mr. Wilson has been trying to develop the lots on a co- operative basis with individual buyers, a process he believes will considerably reduce the final price of the lots. The jungle gym equipment used in "Dragon" will be set up as a play area for children in the park near the Scugog Memorial Li- Those people interested in buying the lots would then build moderately priced homes in the 1400 square foot range. Mr. Wilson said taking the matter in front of the OMB will mean hiring a lawyer and other professional consultants which will add to the final price of the lots, if they eventually are ap- proved. And he said that some people who have expressed an interest in joining the co-operative may be scared off by the increasing costs and delays. Mr. Wilson said he has tried to meet the concerns expressed by Scugog Township council, and he said the land in question is of marginal agricultural value. : He said he hopes the OMB hearing can take place in early au- tumn. The land in question is on the | west of the Oshawa Road about four miles south of Port Perry. At a meeting of Township council May 16, Mr. Wilson asked councillors to put their rea- sons in writing why they are op- posed to the development.
