PPHS news and comments School year nearly over by Oliver Delhaise Summer is fast approaching. And with its advent, the education system is beginning to pack it in for another year. An increase in students, not in classes, but atten- ding various "functions" elsewhere. And those still in class frantically writing their final compositions of the year, quite probably, preparing for those dread June examinations. _ Bad news for all grade 13's tak- ing Calculus: everyone must write the final. But lucky too; they get to write it in class this week and (hopefully) needn't come back to write during the blistering heat of the days from June 14 to June 22. Now, on to less depressing news. Since Friday the 27th, Port Perry is proud to have hosted 4 guest teams from Scotland. Visiting Canada for two weeks are the two boys rugby teams and the two girls field hockey teams from Berwickshire High School in Duns, near Edinborough. It was a great way to end our rugby season playing against them and winning. Another great way to end the year is with the At-Home. It was the biggest and best yet; the theme this year of course, Shangi La. Everyone loved it; it seems to be getting better every year. That makes me wonder what next year in Hollywood will be like... But that will be next year's students council's job. This year under Heather Agnew and Mike Grass worked out very well (good job, you two, and all other members of student's council as well) ! Hopefully, next year under Stephen London and Sharon Jones, will run just as smoothly. Yet another sure sign of the closing of the school year; the awards assembly where many students were honoured for their achievements. Handed out were the school letters, various maths and technical awards, as well as $100.00 prize to Vickie Rensink for Real or Artificial Purchase or Rental Weddings, showers, BEAUTIFUL DISPLAY AFFORDABLY PRICED THERESIA'S CARE DECORATING -- FOR ALL OCCASIONS -- BLACKSTOCK 986-5509 you next year P.P.H.S. Unfortunately at this same assembly, we must also bid adieu to those teachers not returning next year. In particular to those golden oldies who make this school more than just an institu- tion for learning. Thus we must say farewell and happy retire- ment to Mr. Scott.
