26 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, May 31, 1988 Minor Hockey annual meeting (From page 25) questions from the floor about ice umes, practises, and body contact in the house leagues. The shortage of ice time will ~ continue to be a problem for the organization, which means the Blackstock Arena will be used again for practises this coming year, and the executive is looking closely at the possibility of sched- uling some games at the Manvers Arena. A decision on that will be made before registration. . Minor Hockey would like to get about 60 hours of ice time per week, or almost double what it now has. There was a discussion on why practises and the power skat- Ing program are not always well attended by players in the older House: League age groups. One coach suggested that House League coaches should be given the authority to sit out players for a period or two if they miss prac- tise without a good reason. But there was no change in the policy giving House League players equal ice time even if they don't show up for practise. The issue of body contact in the House Leagues was raised briefly in the context of House League teams competing in more and more tournaments, some of which are body contact. Mr. Steele said the body con- tact rules now in place for Minor Hockey won't be changed because most parents don't want body con- tact in the House Leagues and there are too many other potential problems with it. Several significant changes in the Constitution were ratified. One allows House League convenors to transfer players at any time during the season to help ensure the teams are balanced in strength. The cut-off date for transfers used to be the second Saturday in January. And Minor Hockey will now be supplying just one goalie stick. per goalie for rep teams for the season. House League teams will continue to get goal sticks sup- plied unless a goalie is purposely breaking the sticks. The financial statement showed that Minor Hockey fin- ished the season with a $7900 sur- plus. However, with ice rental rates going up in the fall, that money will be used to help keep registrations rates down to a mini- mum increase, if any atall. In 1987-88, Minor Hockey had total expenses of $87,500, of which $52,700 was for ice ren- tals. About 30 people attend. .! the annual meeting last Sunday night, in contrast to some previous years when as many as 80 turned out for the meeting. The reason for the low turn-out was the lack of any "burning issues" with the or- ganization this year. | chute Ar \1 A [3} *3 ! : rH Mulch clippings * $75.00 TRADE-IN ALLOWANCE on LAWNMOWERS (all parts intact) WALT cis) 4 One Lawn-Boy Supreme, with the amazing New Generation 2-cycle engine, can do all these jobs"... beautifully.
