Six awards for Port Perry competitors At the mammoth Budweiser National Truck Show, held at Markham Fairgrounds on Satur- day, May 28th, Port Perry Arm- wrestling Team came home vic- torious after winning six of the twenty awards available to the seventy-five competitors entered in the Armwrestling Tournament. In the Bantamweight class, Terry Barton pulled to a strong second place finish, after some of the toughest competition he has ever faced. Terry's success can partly be attributed to his new, six-inch high platform boots which definitely enhance his strength and technique. In the heavily-entered Lightweight category, Pat Mastrangelo was outstanding and also achieved a second place. In the final battle for the first place award, Pat unfortunately got a bad call from the referee, robbing him of almost certain victory, but Pat aims to set the record straight next time. Garth Carlson (sponsored by Wiggans Landscaping, Bowman- ville) scored a hat trick on Satur- day. Not only did he finish third in the Truckers' Openweight class, but he took the third place in the Middleweight division too. Also Garth was named Most Sportsmanlike Competitor of the day by Gene Tatti, President of the National Armwrestling Association and organizer of the Canadian and World Championships. In his first competitive outing after a three-month layoff due to an injury in February, Mike Haigh (sponsored by Schildt Machining Ltd., Port Perry) had six matches during the contest and was unbeaten throughout, leaving the other competitors in Name Port Perry Auto Glass Sportsland Port Perry Old Timers Galley Fish & Seafood Seagrave Steel Buildings Kinsmen Barry's Variety A.
