There were several canoes from the North Oshawa Canoe Club, and Mr. Cope was presented with a Club t-shirt making him an honourary member of the Club. Bill Haynes of Scugog Island got quite a cheer as he crossed the finish line. He paddled the course by himself, though he had a couple of passengers snug in the back of the canoe: his young daughters Lea 6 and Beth 3. Rene Boogemans and Mike Devine had the best time of the day in C2 Open Class at 2:17:34 and won $100 for their efforts. Tied for second in this class was Rick Routledge and Lee Barker, and Vic Dunn and Shannon Dunn who travelled from Sudbury for this race. In the Mens Resident Class, Robert Baird and Terri Gibson sailed over the course in 2:29:57; about five minutes ahead of Bill Hurst and Mike Freeman. Barry d Wayne Bradt of Caesares fin- ished third. Joyce and Kevin Coppins of Kirkfield won the couples open in 2:50:29, followed by Brent McLaughlin and Laura Dobson and Heather Dunlop and Murray Carson. A couple of Nonquon veterans took the over 40 open in 2:29:37. Les Crowe of Lakefield and Garnet Weaver of Kirkfield. Second went to the Seagrave Mark Matthews and Ryan Ridgway won life jackets, o Canoe the Nonquon team of Ray Desautels and Rod Jones, followed by Rudi Jammer and Fran Dobson. The family -Junior/senior Open was wan by Gerald and Shawn Reyner of Lakefield in 2:49:18. Ralph and Andy French were second and Bill Haynes with his two young daughters took the third place in this class. One of the new classes this year was C-1 with a lone entry Danet Whitehead with a time of The short course for under 14 was won by Mark Matthews and Ryan Ridgway in 28:45. Less than a minute behind were Scott Wylie and Mark Jansen. Weather and water conditions were near perfect for the day, as a steady win did not appear to ham- per paddlers on the lake. All net proceeds from Canoe the Nonquon are turned over to the Scugog Shores Museum. With 27 entries, the tourist class had the most of any of the classes. courtesy of Haugens.
