This was held in conjunction with Harmony Training Program, an an- nual weekend of barbershop singing, this year in Sudbury.Country Chord member Marlene Sargent, past International President of Harmony, acted as Mistress of Ceremonies for the Friday evening quar- tet contest. Country Chords, under the direction of Brian Witteveen, competed early Saturday, and was doubly successful taking the award for most im- proved, and moving from 7th last year to 4th this EE year. The Chorus has qualified to compete in an In- ternational competition in Chicago this coming No- vember.On Saturday evening the Chords were treat- ed to an excellent coaching session by Nancy Foris of Elmhurst Il. In keeping with the Rainbow Country Carnival theme, all contestants provided entertain- ment in a carnival atmosphere Saturday evening. The Country Chords meet each Thursday evening In the Oddfellows Hall In Port Perry. Visitors or ladies trying the barbershop style of singing are always welcome. "Singing Means Happy." Bill & Shirley Barr's front lawn was a beehive of activity all weekend and we want to thank them for once again holding the yard sale at their place. The U.C.W. bake sale was also suc- cessful and thank you to all who donated to their table. Seagrave Park Opening was also held this past weekend when the park board hosted a 16 team slow pitch tournament. Our own Seagrave Country Lane team made it to the semi-finals before 'being defeated by a team from Uxbridge, Sunday morning. Con- gratulations boys and thank you to all the teams who participated and helped to make this another successful event. Get well wishes go out to Reg Abraham who is a patient in Port Perry Hospital. Church and Sunday school resume again next Sunday at Seagrave United at 9:30 a.m. Paul Chilco and a musical group will be guests at this service. Mariposa Elementary School finally had it's field day after be- ing cancelled twice due to bad weather. Mr. Marconi was a good friend of the church and the church school and there was 'much sadness at the tragic acci- dent that took the life of this friendly man. Mr. Marconi senior attended church last Sunday and brought a message of apprecia- tion from the family. Mary Housego and Anne Franklin travelled to Bancroft recently to visit Gladys and Walter Bulley and Mrs. Tripp Mary's mother who is ninety-four years old. On June 13 the Myrtle UCW will go to Bobcaygeon to hold their June meeting at Ethel Not- tingham's new home. All ladies of the congregation are invited. The Myrtle Square dance club ~ assisted by several couples did the display at the Brooklin Fair.
