David and Leah Frew of RR 1, Nestleton have been named as pork producer of the year for Dur- ham East County, by the Ontario Pork Congress. CL : Dave and Leah operate a 220 sow farrow to finish farm with 2400 acres of land in corn, wheat and oats. According to Cathy Aker, chairperson of the awards commit- tee with the Ontario Pork Con- gress, producer of the year hon- ours must meet several criteria. These include being active in community and/or provincial or- ganizations; participation in coun- ty of provincial swine educational programs; recognized as an inno- vator in the use of new technolo- gy, willing to share new ideas with others; and maintains a neat and attractive farm enterprise. Dave is involved with the On- tario Wheat Producers and Corn Producers Associations. Leah is a director with the Durham East Pork Producers organization, and a director of the Blackstock Agricul- tural Society. O'Canada was sung. We had four new members join. The election of officers took place and are as follows: Past President, Clara Warren; Presi- dent, Caroline Bright; Treasurer, Norman Caswell; 1st Vice Presi- dent, Bill Harper; Secretary, Elaine Caswell; 2nd Vice Presi- dent, Ann VonEs; Sick Commit- tee, Thelma McCreight; Pro- gramme Committee, Marion King; Publishing Reporter, Ethel Irvine; Choir Leader, Archie Walker. : A good turnout was at the meeting which was followed by a pot-luck supper with plenty for everyone. The people were enter- tained by the three choirs under the directions of Ethel Freeman, Norman Watson, Archie Walker. This was enjoyed by all. Our next meeting will be last till fall.
